    Default Ep45-ud3p/e8600 500fsb ???

    My main RIG is down - cleaning water cooling componets - 3 loops - may take awhile. I'm stuck playing with my Back-up RIG. You guy's did such a great job helping me get my UD3P/E8600 24/7 stable @ 4.27GHz - I was wondering if you could help me get it to RUN 500 FSB (4.0GHZ or 4.5GHz) on the 2.00D strap. I can't figure out why I can't get it stable. Here's my BIOS setting's. Would someone take a look and make some suggestions ??? By the way, my UD9 almost OC's itself - and you don't have to mess with "REFERENCE VOLTAGES" lol Thanks wibujo

    A long time ago, in a land far, far way, D-an-W started his GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB thread, which lasted for 7 months and has 890 posts.
    You can probably ignore the first half of the thread so that you won't be old and gray by the time you've finished reading about his trials and tribulations.
    BTW, Dan managed to overclock his kitchen and bathroom while performing extended stability/stress testing.

    His E8400 overclock ended above 500MHz with his 4 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix ram.
    Hopefully you won't have to tweak the Clock Skew settings.

    480+ fsb is tricky ,dual or quad.

    500 is 25% higher than the board design max.

    For me using gskill I had to go for a high(comparatively ) mch voltage,but Ive been using that for 3 years.(detuned slightly now,since im on a new system).

    775 quads and duals at hi fsb on ep-45 ud3

    I do have this Xigmatek Porter N881 HDT Northbridge Cooler fitted but thats only for a 6 months or so.

    As allways with these things getting a higher fsb than what u want makes things easier.

    I did most of my testing at 505 fsb,507 was the highest ,allways get a boot into OS I could manage without silly voltages.

    500 was a nice point for stable 24/7 operation anything higher was just for show, altho I and another poster did have a cpu-z validation duel ,I think he got to 530(using x8),I got to around 528 :).

    Totally meaningless of course ,and all about getting your validation done before things heated up and bluescreens happened.

    I changed the multi to 8 (4.0 GHz) and tRead to 10 and was able to run LinX for 5 passes. (first time thats happen) Thats with rest of the setting as shown above in first post. GFlops were down to 28+ (may need to tweak RAM a little) and I usually run over 30 on this RIG. As far as temps go: Idle 28c / Load 66c @ the cores / System stayed around 33c. My goal is 4.5 GHz and didn't want to spend a lot of time on time on 4.0 GHz. I need to go back and read your info before tweaking anymore.     Unlike ProfJim I am in favore of tweaking Clock Skews and references, that may help to atchive higher clocks with lower voltage (VTT/vcore).
    But in order to twek them easily yo need to find a quite unstable settings (lower VTT and perhaps vcore) that would fail memtest86+ test #5 or lower. Then start with clock skews, and continue with MCH and then CPU reference.

    I BTW applied all those tweks that I have found in higher FSB to lower FSB settings, all but stock settings. Though they are not absolutely nesessarry, they are probably "more stable".

    Tweaking an existing OC is always easier than starting from scratch, so I'm glad you linked your current OC settings.

    Do definitely read D-an-W's thread, it's long and full of information.

    Reference voltages will almost certainly need tweaking at 500 + FSB. Clock skews... depends on the circumstances and your particular setup, again it may be needed.

    If I had progressed to your current settings and wished to continue upward to 500 FSB, I would probably try the following:

    It can be difficult to decide what to change, how much and when. I'd start by increasing CPU Vcore to 1.3625V, set VTT to 1.2V then lower MCH Ref to 0.740V, increase MCH Core to 1.2V and lower your RAM multiplier to 2.00. Try both B and D, although D is supposedly "better for 400+ FSB, I've found that in some cases D simply doesn't work at all. Also increase Ststic tRead on both channels to 11.

    You can tighten tRead down later. You can also decrease MCH voltage if you test stable.

    All the places that I've written (can increase a little) are settings that can have an impact on stability at higher OC's. They are also safe to increase slightly as they don't cause additional heat. The two choices are to completely leave them alone until you can't get stable with the major settings, or simply increase them temporarily by a couple of notches now. You can always decrease them again later.

    Note that if you want to keep your RAM at 1200, you can try using the 2.4B RAM multi, it may work.

    This makes me wish I never had to sell my UD3P. Best mid range P45 board ever made IMO. Mid range price, ultra high end performance.
