    Default GA X58 UD5 with i7 920 voltage question

    Hi there everyone.

I am new to the forum after it coming highly recommended to me. I am also new to overclocking but I have achieved quite a bit of success in the last few days.

After using this guide: 3 Step Overclocking Guide – Bloomfield and Gulftown | TechREACTION as a starting point and trawling through forum threads I have reached what I think is a stable overclock.

    My specs are:

    i7 920 2.67 OC to 3.99
    Patriot Mem ddr3 1600 6 gig (currently at 1520)
    system multiplier x21
    uncore x16
    memory multiplier x8
    bclock 190
    vcore 1.26875
    qpi 1.235

Now I appreciate I am giving the bare bones here and can provide more info if needed. But I would like to know if a low qpi voltage impacts on the memory performance?
Only reason I ask is that a lot of people seem to be running 1.3 or higher and yet mine remains stable on prime 95 and intel burn test with my above voltages. I can only use 1520 of the 1600 but I'm guessing this makes little difference in performance. Should I be pleased? Just wondered if this was ok or too low and could result in damage to the ram or cpu.

My max temps on stress testing are 75 degrees.

    Thanks in advance.

Aslong as its stable, the lower the voltages the better, you should try for 4.2ghz then you can run 1600mhz ram, your temps should let you hit that speed, you want cores to be 80c or under

Low voltages shouldn't damage anything aslong as it remains stable

Thanks! Will try as you suggested.

If aiming for 4.2 should I put both vcore and qpi up to 1.3 to start with and then work down from there? Again, from reading other people's experiences I have noticed this is one way of going about it.I guess I am looking to raise the bclock to achieve this.

    Thank you for any pointers.

I would leave CPU voltage where it is and try 1.3v qpi/vtt,if you get a blue screen error try and catch the error code,

0000124 error is not enough qpi/vtt voltage
0000101 error is not enough CPU voltage

Could try a quick 10 pass on high of linx

Remember to adjust uncore freq aswell so for 4.2ghz it will be

    200x21 bclk
Uncore freq can be 16x,17x or 18x(personally I use 17x)
Memory spd multiplier will be 10x

    ok thanks.

Doesn't want to load up windows. Sticks at the start up logo then I have to reset. Does that mean not enough voltage/power? Also noticed you have load line disabled where I was told to have it at level 2. I have no option in bios to disable that. Just standard, level 1 and level 2. I also have all my power saving c states turned off. My mem speed is set at 8x which gives me 1600 when I raise bclock to 200 on x21. Have uncore on x16. Again on previous advice from guide.

I'm only suggesting what I use, what BIOS version you using? I prefer f12 as I need less voltage with that BIOS,but you might need newer/latest if your running an ssd ect

I think llc is on auto or standard and to make use of the c states you have to set CPU voltage to normal in CPU voltage list and make a note of what voltage it uses, then set an amount in dvid to be applied at load to remain stable

Post what voltage normal uses for CPU in BIOS and ill suggest a setting in dvid for 4.2ghz

    Ok

    My normal vcore is 1.20625
As for my bios I'm not sure but msinfo32 tells me it is FA 2.4...?
Could I not leave my c states of?
    Thanks again

It your choice if you want c states on or off,I have mine on at it works perfectly

    Set dvid to +0.09375v which makes a total of 1.20625v + 0.09375v = 1.30000v CPU voltage
Enable eist and c3,keep c1e disabled and use balanced profile in windows power saving profile, keep qpi/vtt on 1.3v

If you don't want to clock through dvid just set a manual fixed CPU voltage of 1.3v,but CPU won't throttle in speed/voltage when not under load
