    Default Issue with GA-EX58-Extreme

My GA-EX58-Extreme recently developed an issue which causes it to get stuck at the C1 code at boot and will not post or have any video output. This happens once every 4-5 reboot/restarts and without any hardware/settings change. It's very strange because if the system powers up, it runs fine and very stable. The only way to get it to work again is to flick off the power switch on the PSU and cut power completely, wait about 5 minutes and power on again.

I then thought my Kingston RAM might be an issue so I got some known good RAM from friends and tried Corsair and Crucial kits with the same results. Also during all the testing I noticed the board will not run the RAM at 1600mhz (which the kits were rated to do) without crashing/freezing (My RAM was 1333mhz so I didn't try until now).

I have tried updating the bios to F12 and Beta F13J and F13S but the issue persists.

    Any ideas?

F12 will be the best BIOS to use imo, manually set dram voltage to what's printed on the ram,set qpi/vtt voltage to 1.3v and then test, could test each stick one by one in each white slot one by one, maksure it boots up into Windows with one stick in one white slot then repeat test with other sticks n slots, any sticks that won't boot up are faulty, same with any white ram slots

I've tried with F12 but no luck, I've also tried the different slots and ram kits and single sticks. The ram works fine and I've tested in my other i7 system, no issue. temps are normal, again system is solid except when starting up and gets stuck at C1. If it gets past C1 all is good

Can you borrow another CPU to test with for a day or two?

C1 can sometimes mean CPU is dead or dying, so you may want to test that as soon as you can incase the CPU is starting to go bad.

I never thought it was the CPU because I've tested with both memtest86+ and Prime95 and both are 24 hours stable. Once the machine is up and running everything is fine.
Could this also be the cause of the fact that I can't run the memory 1600mhz even without overclocking anything?

I'll try to test with another chip

It might not be the CPU, but you should still test with another CPU for a few days if you can as it could be and that would be the only way to know for sure.

Stable doesn't mean it's not failing in some other way, so if you can borrow another CPU that would be great.

You can run the memory at 1600 anytime you want, what do you mean you cannot? You have to set 1600 manually, or via XMP if the memory has XMP programming, auto set memory will always be 1333 or lower.

Have you tried with a manual 1.3v qpi/vtt voltage? To run at 1600 mhz set spd system memory multiplier to 12x,

Does it give c1 error from cold? Once pc is warmed up its fine?

Have you removed the CPU at all since problems started?

I have tried to manually set the memory to 1600, the issue isn't that the board will not see them at 1600, it's that the system isn't stable. In Windows it will fail at Prime95 and sometimes give BSODs during booting Windows. I've tried to run the timings and voltage manually to the XMP profile and the standard profile but no luck. This is a different issue than my cold start issue but might be related as it's also an memory issue

Yes - I did voltage adjustments and in fact I did a 15% increase on all voltages at one point to try to see if I can run 1600 with that still no luck. I've tried 1600 kits from Kingston HyperX, Corsair XMS3 and Crucial Ballistix and none of them will run at 1600 stable even with 1.75 vRAM

the C1 error happens from cold and when warm, it just seems like every 4-6 starts whether from reboots/restarts (from warm) or cold starts it would be stuck. I haven't changed my CPU mounting at all and it's been fine for past year and a half. To add a bit more info, once it gets stuck in C1, I would have to power off completely and switch off even the PSU power switch to cut power completely, wait about 2-4 minutes and everything would come up again and run fine. I guess in theory if the machine is left running 24/7 it wouldn't be an issue but not very power efficient then :)

You should only use 1.5v or 1.66v for your dram/ram voltage, you don't wanna damage them, what amount qpi/vtt did you test with? You might have needed more
