Default New GPU on a P965 chipset

    Hi guys,

i would like to change my old GPU (Nvidia 7950GT) for some newer one
like GTS450, GTX460 or GTX550ti, but I don't know is my motherboard compatible.

My motherboard is GA-965P-DQ6 (rev. 1.0)
    GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-965P-DQ6 (rev. 1.0)

I think that PCIE lane on my motherboard is 1.0, and mentioned cards above are 2.0 or 2.1
so could you run some of those cards on board?

One more thing, is my PSU gonna power those cards?
My PSU is Antec TruePower Trio 550W
    Antec TruePower Trio 550 | silentpcreview.com

    rest of the configuration is
    Cpu E6600 stock
    4GB DDR2 800Mhz
    Samsung F1 1TB + WD 640GB
    Zalman MF1 controler
    Skystar HD
    Pioneer DVD

    I don't plan to overclock.

    Tnx in advance,
    Filip

Thumbs up Re: New GPU on a P965 chipset

My MSI N460GTX Hawk runs great in my P35-DS3L system.
I'm reasonably sure that the 450, 460, or 560 Ti will run at full speed with your P965 system. Just to be on the safe side, your should contact tech support for the brand/model of card you want to buy to verify that the new video card will perform well with your system. I was surprised that most of my graphics benchmark scores were virtually identical with reviews that were testing with modern systems with much more powerful setups.
Check out MSI N460GTX Hawk (1GB) Overclocking Results for more information.

Your psu is powerful enough for any of these cards, but it's an older model that was a so-so model. The newer Antec power supplies are much improved over their older models. I'm using an Antec TP-750 to power my N650SLI-DS4 with two N460GTX Hawk video cards, and this Antec psu has received rave reviews from the top tier psu review sites.

tnx for the answer profjim :D
will contact the manufacturer and see what's their take on the situation.

i need the card only for 3D Bluray playback, and those cards are entry level for that.
so i think my psu will hold(probably) because i dont plan any gaming on it :D

got the Asus GTS450 DirectCU, an overclocked version, it was a good deal :D

the card is working like a charm, playing 3D videos without any hickup :D

the temps are 37-38 idle, and 47-50 while playing 3D (room temp 24)
i am pleased so far :D

tnx for the help profjim :D
