    Default GA-990FXA-UD3 BIOS setup Questions

Hi all, searching for a bit of advice here...

First off, I have a 990FXA-UD3 board, AMD 1100T CPU, and have everything up and running - just had some BIOS setting questions.

I have two Raptors in a RAID0, loaded with XP. "OnChip SATA Type" BIOS setting is set to 'RAID'.

Now, I want to add a OCZ SSD and load it with Windows 7 x64, and have it dual-boot alongside XP on the RAID.

From what I've read, SSD's should be set to AHCI for best performance...?

So, ultimately I need to know WTF to do. Are the RAID and ACHI BIOS settings mutually exclusive? It seems kind of silly that a new
modern mobo can't handle a RAID array and a single (SSD) drive simultaneously... I have a feeling I'm being retarded and missing something

RAID implies AHCI for drives that are not part of a RAID set.
I think the maual also recommend using RAID instead of AHCI .

    Hi there,

If you are running a RAID array then AHCI is part of the setup. Adding another drive to the controller, that is not part of the RAID Array, will mean that the drive will run in AHCI Mode.

Using the AMD SATA Controller you will find that Windows 7 won't need any specific AHCI Drivers as the generic Microsoft ones work fine, in fact, in my testing on the GA-990FXA-UD5 I have actually found that they perform better than the AMD ones.
