Oh no we only got 7c left for 100MHz
Try with 1.57 PLL (if you have ET6 installed)

Thumbs up Re: ED45-UD3p with 8400 Dual Core overclock help! :)

    Jake, you're making amazing progress.
Getting IBT stable is just one of the major hurdles.
For me IBT stability is like graduating from grade school.
Passing all three Prime95 tests, with each one running for 8 hours or more is like getting a PHD.
Hopefully you won't encounter the dreaded random bsod at idle like Dan did after he passed all his stability tests.

I predict that you'll make 4.50GHz fully stable, but you'll settle on a 4.20GHz setup for everyday use.
In another three months as winter arrives, your system will make a great room heater.

It looks like you'll be besting AnandTech where "Our maximum overclock on air-cooling with the E8600 came with a blistering 4.40GHz clock speed at a fully stable 550MHz FSB rate." [AnandTech - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P - P45 at its Finest]

    Keep up the great work!!!

    Woohoo!!! Thank you

Unfortunately, giving in to my CPU's voltage appetite made it realize it can get away with asking for more. I switched up to 495 x 9 x 990 and made the following changes:

    VCore 1.37500
    IBT Fail

    VCore 1.38125
    IBT Fail

    VCore 1.38750
    IBT Fail

    VCore 1.39375
    IBT Fail

    VCore 1.40000
    IBT Fail

    VCore 1.40625
    IBT Fail

    VCore 1.41250
    IBT Fail

    VCore 1.41875
IBT Fail - CPU PLL is at 1.57 and my core temps are 80 C. Can't afford to push up the VCore any further without enhanced cooling. Voltage requirements have definitely gotten exponential.

Idea... would it make any sense to increase the CPU multiplier or are power demands constant regardless?

Strangely, I went to experiment with this, and with BIOS settings (confirmed) at 469 x 9.5 x 938, my monitoring software says otherwise:

Have I entered the twilight zone?
My Intel spec sheets for the E8400 show that 9.0 is the maximum cpu multiplier.

Yes, just found this out via google search

So, now I'm back to 495 x 9 x 990 trying to get IBT to pass

MCH Core looks like it has room to grow, as does VTT.

As you o/c higher you're putting additional stress and demands on all of the sub-systems, not just your cpu.
Upping the Cpu Vcore alone probably isn't enough. As an example, it's possible but probably not likely that you might need slightly looser memory timings.
It might be time for more Reference volt tweaking or clock skews.
    PSU problem?
Anyone have a big bottle of SWAG?

    Let's think outside the box:
    1) Turn off your system and let it cool for 10 - 15 minutes.
    2) When was the last time your thoroughly cleaned out the interior of the case. I always re-seat all cables and plug-in hardware when I clean mine.
    3) Maybe something isn't secure when you installed your new cpu cooler.
    4) Tried prayer?

If we're talking temps,. I notice your GPU is at 51. I'm pretty sure you're not really using at the moment so I will take that reading as idle.

I have mine (although vacum cleaner loud) down from 71 to 32 just with stock fan cooler it came with turned up to max.
As a result I dropped my System temp,.along with CPU (ambient) temps down substantially.

If you could do something similar,. I see damn near 4GHz on air!
