Next mission is run Prime95, customizze small FFT in place to run 8 minutes each test, and let it run 80 minutes (10 tests).
Then the same with large FFT in place.
    CPU at 3.8GHz.

Thanks guys. I didn't get multiple short beeps on any of these failed boots - just silence for 5 seconds and a shutdown, so based on that I'm guessing the problem in this case may in fact be VCore voltage.

I had reverted back to 448 x 8.5 x1075 with the stock VCore. Before I do this next mission, should I up the voltage or stay at stock?

EDIT: Also - run only CoreTemps alongside Prime95, or the other monitoring software as well?

Short beeps are memory I think
448x8.5 passed IBT? If yes then use this if not the max that pass IBT.

EDIT: It's important to remember the FFT size that cause failure, this may help in running specific tests and save time.

    Hi Guys,

Since I ran a few hours now of 3.80Ghz and several IBT tests repeatedly without issue, I decided to quick revisit the voltage before doing lengthy stability tests.

It didn't make sense to me that going up ever so slightly in FSB failed repeatedly, even with large amounts of voltage added incrementally.

    This got me thinking...

If the function of the CPU Termination setting is to be interpretted literally, it would not make sense to increase the running voltage without proportionally increasing the termination voltage.

So I tried bumping up to 3.85 Ghz, and found that with 1.36250V Vcore and a CPU Termination of 1.300V, it would boot

I then bumped up to 3.90 Ghz, leaving Vcore and CPU Termination the same, and it booted again.

However, when I say boot here, I did not let it load windows - I saw that it POSTed, and so went immediately into BIOS.

Since I was at 3.90 Ghz, I decided to boot windows to start testing. However, once it got to the point where it started loading windows, it reset. Then it did the same thing again.

So, I dialed back to 3.85 Ghz (still with Vcore and CPU Termination at 1.3625 and 1.30, respectively), and tried to boot.

This time, instead of resetting, it BSOD'd:
    STOP: 0x0000001E (0xFFFFFFFFC000001D, 0xFFFFF8000BB8D344, 0x0000000000000000.0XD9B257FC00000000)

I'm thinking that the voltage issues are all now squared away, and now I'm perhaps facing a different limitation (memory issue?).

I'm still at 2.40B, with 5 5 5 15 timings, all as per my last BIOS posting. MCH Core is now 2.60, however.

Can you just re-confirm this tolerance? I ask only because someone who posted previously on my page says that he is running 445x9x1068 and I saw he has:
    Vcore: 1.325
    Termination: 1.300

Which of course is only half of the minimum tolerance (.05).

The VTT recommendation is correct as posted.
Lsdme posted this recommendation several years ago and never changed it.
I've seen a few posted settings where VTT was the same as CPU Vcore and a couple where they were running with VTT slightly higher than CPU Vcore.

The recommendation is for long term reliability of your hardware and when you run higher than the maximum settings you will probably degrade your hardware much sooner. There are other maximum recommended voltage settings that shouldn't be exceeded. Intel has posted minimum and maximum voltage settings. Many of the maximum recommended settings in this forum and other forums are higher than Intel's recommendations, but have proven to be safe for long term running.

Oh ye of little faith ;)

**edit** VTT does NOT necessarily need to be increased in proportion to CPU Vcore increases. You need to find the lowest STABLE setting with your system. I ran for a long time with my E6550 C2D with VTT about 0.10 volts lower than my ~1.36875 cpu vcore.

    STOP Error 0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
    Not very infarmative.

Obviousely the increment in vcore and VTT is huge, I rather fine tweak all other settings before I start with brute force.

e.g. at 450MHz FSB, aside from vcore which I need a lot, VTT is 1.22, after tweaking MCH and CPU references and clock skews.
    Basically it is like this.
higher VTT widen the range between "1" and "0"
the reference values set the barrier between "1" and "0"
clock skews help synchyng the signals arrivel to the CPU and NB.

Even if more VTT will finally be needed, it's best to have the reference and clock skews at their best position.

I will start running the Prime95 tests now.

So far, so good. Left it testing for awhile set to 8-minute short FFTs. It ran 15 of them, all successful. Will run the long FFTs now as advised.

I was hoping small FFT pass, and now hoping large FFT fail.

5 tests in right now, and all passed so far. If all 10 pass, should I run a standard blend test overnight?
