    Default ED45-UD3p with 8400 Dual Core overclock help! :)

    Hi All,

    As per the instructions in this thread (http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post295784) I have made the recommended changes to my BIOS, and filled out all the requested information below. I'm very new to overclocking, and look forward to some input on how to tweak my setup. I was going to buy a new core i7 2600K but figure I'd screw around to see what I can get out of this and save the money. I got a new SSD last week, and noticed a ridiculous improvement.     What CPU cooler do you have?
    Some things don't add up. You have XMP disabled, memory multiplier auto, and Performance Enhance standard, but memory clock and timings look like the settings are actually different.
    Set SMM to 3.20B and standard memory timings manually 5-5-5-15, you may need more DRAM voltage for this.

    How come you use F8 bios? F10 is the latest non-beta (that's what I'm using).

    It's just a standard intel heatsink and fan - I was going to see what I can get out of it before heat becomes an issue and then upgrade if and when I need to.

    tRD(Performance Level in MemSet, Static tRead Value in BIOS), is set too high by auto, mine does 6 easy at 333MHz FSB DDR-1066, see how low can you set it (7. 6. 5) both channels.
    I suggest we try max OC at stock vcore, and go higher if tempertures allow.

    Run memtest86+ one full pass, then Prime95 small FFT toture for an hour, then large FFT for an hour.
    Monitor core temperatures with Core Temp or RealTemp. Max core temp should be below 70c, stop the test if they get over 75c.
    If temps are below 70c, try to run 5 loops IBT/LynX with 1536MB, record max GFlops. Again stop the test if temperatures are over 80c.
    Try to increase FSB to 370, then 378 repeating the tests.
    For final stability test with the highest settings that pass the tests above, run 8+ hours Prime95 blend torture. You can customize the blend test to run only 10 minutes each tests to run more tests(FFT sizes).
    If Prime95 fail, it's important to record the sizze that cause failure, also the BSOD code if you get a BSOD.

    Thanks again for your help!

    I made the changes you suggested, and am burning memtest86+ right now to run the full pass.

    I don't know if this is important, but noted that with the changes to DRAM performance control, the memory frequency became 976, as opposed to 973.

    Going to run the test now

    Maybe my math was just a bit off, it may actually be 366 x 2.66666... = 976.

    Gotcha. Memtest full pass complete without errors. Now about to start Prime95 tests, will report back.

    About 5 minutes into the test now and I'm right on the edge at 74 and 73 degrees Max for the cores. Will continue to monitor - if it hits 75 I'll stop the test but it's been holding steady now at these temps.
