Thanks Chike! That helps me understand better.

Here are my Voltage values, please advise!

If your at stock CPU speed, you could easily knock off 1v from CPU by setting CPU voltage to normal setting and set dvid to -0.10000v,this will run CPU voltage at 1.19375v max, next I would up qpi/vtt voltage to 1.20000v,then test,my qpi/vtt is at 1.25v with ram at 1800mhz so 1.2v would seem right

    Wazza,

Please forgive the newb questions. I hope you can help me understand better.

    1) Are my current values actually "wrong", in the sense that they would be causing my crashes? Or are you just tweaking to optimize things?

    2) Why are my DRAM voltages so different from their target? (1.5 vs 1.58)

    3) Seen as I have been stable in the last few days, is it possible somehow that my voltages are "okay" for two sticks but bad for three sticks?

thanks dude, you are the best.

If your rams rated at 1.65v then set it to that,if 1.5v then its fine, its different from Target values because its on auto? And yes the suggestions I gave you were to improve temps without reducing stability

The only setting I see out of place that would cause instability with 4 sticks of ram would be not enough qpi/vtt at 1.15v,you need atleast 1.2-1.25v,mine uses 1.25v with just 4gb,and I too have knocked off 1v from CPU voltage, and running at stock 3ghz without issue

My ram does state 1.65v on the side of the stick.

    "PC3-10666 7-7-7-20 1.65v"

I don't have four sticks, before posting here I was using 3 sticks (3x2GB=6gb). It was a kit of three sticks I had bought.

Sorry but can you be more specific?

Should I change my "target" DRAM Voltage to 1.65v? It only seems to go up in increments of .2?
How do i take it OFF auto then?

Can't i just increase the QPI/vtt? It is currently at 1.1v?

Sorry I'm scared to mess with this, I want to understand what's going on first.

its fine to use 1.66v in bios for dram,it will be 1.648v in windows, ive been using that voltage for over two years and ram is fine, you need to set it to spec(whats printed on the ram)for it to work correctly,qpi/vtt voltage is for the memory controller which runs the throughput of data of the ram,you can use 1.25v for three sticks,im using that amount with just two sticks, try and test with that amount if no errors you know it was not enough voltage

heres my voltages different mb but still similar, using 17x180bclk so i can run ram at 1800mhz

    temps

i didnt set a fixed cpu voltage i used voltage offset or dvid in gigabyte, then cpu still throttles when idle

    Thanks Wazza,

So to change the voltage, I have to do so in the bios, right? Programs like ET5 only show the values?

Do you suggest I try to reinsert the third stick now and play with the voltages (with help) to see if it was just a power issue? OR simply stick with 2 sticks of ram and optimize settings with your help.

    thanks.

you can try in easytune to set voltages but the best way is in the bios, try 3sticks and set qpi/vtt to 1.2500v and set dram voltage to 1.66v which will be 1.648v in windows, could set cpu voltage to normal then set dvid to -0.10000v

    thanks again dude!

Do you think its worthwhile even to try, considering the third stick will operate in single channel mode anyway?

I don't know,I've never used 3sticks in dual/single channel so can't say, could try and test read/write figures in aida64 to see if it improves or not,4gb is enough ram though, you could try and buy another 2gb mushkin stick and add it to what you have, same spec
