    Default Hard drives disappear

    GA-MA790X-UD4P (rev. 1.0), F9 BIOS
AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition (4th core unlocked, not OC'd)
    Corsair 60gb SSD w/ Win 7 64 bit
    Seagate 1T HDD w/ XP/SP3 32 bit
    WD 750gb HDD

I leave the computer in Win 7 and come back an hour later to find it's rebooted into XP (not the default) and the SSD and WD drives have disappeared. Reboot warm and "detecting drives" takes ~1 minute and then sees only the Seagate drive and then only XP. BIOS only sees the Seagate. Long story short, I shut down, wait a minute, restart and now it's detecting the SSD too. Reset the boot order and it boots to the Win 7 SSD as usual, although Windows sees the WD HDD as a new device (but everything is there). This is the first time this has happened.

Obviously, it's more than a bit worrisome. Is it likely to be just one of those random occurrences, or is there something to more to know or watch for? Thanks,

Did it reboot after win7 update? If your ssd isn't set in the bios as first boot device it will look for the next OS (winxp) and boot up into that,is your ed drive shared between the two operating systems for storage?

Say what? What update? Since XP is not the default, then Win 7 must be and its drive (SSD) is naturally first in order in the BIOS. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Win 7 requires beingf first. In any case, what does all that have to do with two drives disappearing? Let's get back to the problem reported..

Are you using latest BIOS? And its only happened once? Just wanted to be sure you've set your boot order correctly

    "GA-MA790X-UD4P (rev. 1.0), F9 BIOS"

Is there a later non-beta version than F9?

It happened again just now, maybe an hour after I had walked away from the computer. I caught it while the system was trying to restart Win 7 but failing; after that, the other two drives disappeared. Shut down, waited, restart, everything ok, including drive order. I don't know what's causing the crash, but I had started an older version of Vuze right before leaving both times. Will have to take a look at that.

You can look in the event viewer in windows to see what the crash was. Also might want to disable automatic system restart on error. This will stop the system from rebooting if its getting a bsod errror message. If it is a Bsod write down the stop error. Should look like 0x000000101 or something along those lines.

Your message came as I was checking the Event Viewer. Identical Kernal-Power Error both times.

Could you check the PSU? suspect the PSU is faulty, and check the SATA cables as well.

I love posts where people have opinions ("suspect") without any explanation to back it. It's easy to end up chasing one's tail. Perhaps you're right, but given what I've reported, i.e., Vuze having been started both times right before I walked away, that seemed like the first place to look, to see if some corruption of it was having much greater effects. So after the uninstall/reboot/reinstall routine last night, I started it today and walked away twice, once for 1 hour and then again for 5. So far problem. Will have to see..
