Do a web search using: bent cpu pins
and click on IMAGES, then click on LARGE. This will give you an idea of what you will be looking for.
There are several forum threads that have pictures of bent cpu socket pins where we have looked at the provided pictures or picture links and have marked the location of the bent pins. It might be easier if you have the computer shop check for bent pins if your system doesn't work after they've done the installation.

Good luck, let us know how it works out.

At a cost of $100, the technician at the computer repair shop confirmed what I had determined about this board namely, the HD and DVD ROM are registered in the BIOS but the latter will not load either of them. He also informed me that he had checked the RAM and it wasn't faulty.

I sent an email to Gigabyte and they are prepared to have a look at it and even replace it if necessary, however I need to fork out another $33 for return delivery or provide them with a self addressed satchel. I'll check with the post office tomorrow whether that is cheaper.

I also got in touch with the seller and he stated that 2x4GB RAM is not stable with this board and I actually need 4X2GB Has anyone had success with 2x4GB ? I realise that people would have upgraded to newer boards but they might remember their experiences with this type of board.

Another way of looking at it, if Gigabyte state that there is nothing wrong with the board then it must be the configuration of RAM that is causing the problem.

Default Re: Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 will not boot HD

    From GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-X48T-DQ6 (rev. 1.1)
    the memory specifications show:
    1. 4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory
    2. Dual channel memory architecture
    3. Support for DDR3 2000/1600/1333/1066/800/MHz, XMP memory modules.
The Memory Support List has a very short list of memory modules that they have tested, and none of them are 4GB modules. It may be that your board will support 4 x 2GB memory, but it might not support 2 x 4GB.

Before you send your board to Gigabyte, check with them to see if the board is capable of supporting 2 x 4GB of memory. Can you borrow a set of 2GB modules to test with before you send in your board? If necessary, can you get by with 2 x 2GB of memory?

Did you try booting with only one 4GB memory module installed?

What is the model number that is printed on the motherboard, just above the the upper pci-e slot?
The motherboard version should be 1.1 and is located in the lower left (rear) corner of the motherboard.

I did that awhile back but their reply was that there were too many brands and combinations for them to test, so they were not sure whether the ram was suitable. Kingston states that they are but I'll bet that they have not tested that situation.

    Unfortunately, no

Did you try booting with only one 4GB memory module installed?
Yes, as suggested by you in your earlier post.

What is the model number that is printed on the motherboard, just above the the upper pci-e slot?
I have looked all over the board and the only relevant piece of information that I can provide is Rev 1.1 and 812132 but I don't think that that is what your are referring to. I can see PCIE-1, 2 etc but no pci-e

The motherboard version should be 1.1 and is located in the lower left (rear) corner of the motherboard.
    Yes it's there

I'll get back to Gigabyte and ask their opinion about the 4x2GB ram combination. So much for my thinking that it was going to be straight forward change over of boards.

It looks like 2x4GB of DDR3 memory won't work.
    From a google search using: ga-x48t-dq6 2x4gb

    http://www.geil.com.tw/French/upload...dc19103c5e.pdf, page 4:
GQML 2010 GeIL DDR3 Value PLUS Series Dual Channel Kit
    For the following Gigabyte motherboards;
    GA-X48T-DQ6
    GA-P45T-xxxx
    GA-P45C-xxxx
    GA-P35T-xxxx
    GA-P35C-xxxx
"*Items above do not support 8GB(2x4GB)"
GeIL also states that ASUS and MSI P35, P45, and X48 DDR3 models don't support 2x4GB.

From G.Skill: "*G.Skill guarantees 2 Dimms dual channel operation would reach announced specification."
This means that with four memory modules installed, the memory might not run at the full rated speed.
This sometimes applies to other memory brands when using two memory kits.
Your best solution is to use a 4x2GB memory setup.

The attached picture shows where the model name is on the motherboard.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Gigabyte could not provide me with this answer but did refer me to their site and compatible memory but which is not relevant to 4GB modules.

The attached picture shows where the model name is on the motherboard.
I saw that there but did not think that that was what was being asked for. It is exactly as in the picture, ie an X48T

I'll check what I can get in terms of 2GB modules and get back here with some feedback. Thank you both for your input.

The Gigabyte memory support list includes samples that they have tested with. It is NOT a complete list of compatible memory that will work with a particular motherboard. Most memory manufacturers will have a "memory adviser" to help select memory for specific motherboards and computer systems. Many will also include a list of motherboard models that they have tested for compatibility with each memory kit. If in doubt, contact their online tech support.

G.SKILL-SEARCH BY MANUFACTURER MODEL NAME <-- X48T-DQ6 search
Many newer memory modules have tall memory heatsinks that might interfere with your cpu cooler, check carefully before you buy.

    You're welcome, happy searching ;)
