what speed are you running ram at? try setting qpi/vtt to 1.315v it wont hurt anything, just might need more, even on stock clocks

changing qpi to 1.315, and exiting bios gave no boot-loops this time, as the system (would) periodically hard crash to power-off state, i will leave running and see if it does this again. this is first time i have been able to enter bios and exit (with or without changes) and NOT have it loop... cross fingers lol

so a follow up question (assuming that the qpi voltage is the issue) ... why would this have resulted in the issue, when using "Fail-safe" options... surely the voltages should be set so it cant FAIL? as playing around in the bios is not a 'user-level' fix.

auto doesnt always get it right, depends on what make/model ram using and what your cpu needs as each cpu will be different in needing more/less voltage, depends on whether that ram is supported by gigabyte too,it will be ok once stable its just finding the right setting

fail-safe settings are by no mean guarantee no failure for any given configuration.
They might have worked perfectly with one memory module or 3 x 1GB connfiguration at DDR-1333.
Is the memory running at DDR-1600 by default (e.g. has an XMP profile enabled)?

ran last night for 5hr55m then hard crash, then a series of hard crashes during both post process and JUST after windows started... this took 3 hrs to get booted into windows. at 1am local time system booted into Win7, stayed stable for 9 hrs until I rebooted to check ram speed. Turned XMP profile1 on ram clock was set to auto and already showing 1600MHz speed. system boot-looped twice and then proceeded to load windows.

getting extremely frustrated, as the system worked 100% for 3 months using whatever default settings were in the bios, before these issues presented!

mobo shows 2 NB overvoltage led's lit, 1 red... 1 green
1 CPU led lit, 1 ram led lit.
ram led's from sata plugs -> ram are XXXXOXX
cpu led's from cpu -> mobo edge are XXOXX
NB led's from PCiE -> CPU are XXXGRX

    where O is ON, X is OFF, G=Green R=Red

could be your ram too, would be good to try with another brand like corsair or kingston or ocz ect, adata ram might be perfectly fine its just i havnt heard much of them and you need to test with different brand to rule out a ram problem,if its not ram its either a cpu or mb fault,i cant think what else you could try

did you load/test optimized defaults and not failsafe defaults?

I think we eliminated the RAM, when the mobo was boot-looping with ONLY the power supply and CPU connected?

Well if it worked fine for 3months and you've tested with another psu,and it still does it in bioswithout ram,it can only leave the cpu. and mb as possible cause,is mb still in warranty? you have three years for cpu and mb

yeah, whole system is only just coming up to 4mths old from new. the issue is the supplier does not have another 1366 cpu or motherboard... as the PC is [supposed] to be a business pc (hence not overclocked) and not a gaming PC the week or so he want's to 'test' the motherboard.

short of having another mobo or cpu is there any way we could isolate which of the two components it is more likely to be?

And thanks to all here for there continued help :)
