Default Only boots with 1 stick of RAM (Corsair XMS2 & GA-965P-S3)

    Motherboard: GA-965P-S3 Rev 3.3
    RAM: TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX

The computer boots fine with 1 stick of the XMS2 RAM.

I tested the sticks and both of them work in both of the slots I am trying to boot them in, but it will only boot properly if there is only 1 stick plugged in either slot.

With both sticks plugged in, the computer will quickly restart twice, and then it will run the third time, but the screen won't turn on and no post either.

With my old generic RAM sticks, and the computer boots fine with both of them plugged in, but not with my corsair ones.
I'm not mixing the RAM either. I'm just trying to get 2 XMS2's to work.

I've altered the BIOS settings a bit, made sure it was 800 Mhz, 5-5-5-18.
I've tried changing DDR2 OverVoltage Control to +0.1V, +0.2V, +0.3V, changed the FSB and MCH to +0.1V, and to 667 Mhz, but it still won't boot 2 sticks

How much generic ram were you using?
Before installing the new ram, did you load Optimized bios defaults before making any bios changes?

Set DDR2 OverVoltage Control = +0.3 if your memory sticker says that max voltage is 2.1
Set MCH OverVoltage Control = +0.2 for 4GB of ram

We can best help you if you add a detailed hardware list to your forum signature.
Include your operating system version and bios version.
It sounds like your system is not overclocked.

Using 4gb's (2x2gb) of generic ram, used to run 6gb (2x2gb, 2x1gb) but I never had to change anything in the BIOS. And you're right, my system is not overclocked.

The sticker on the ram says 1.80V ver1.2
I will try your settings first thing tomorrow morning (nearly 4am here) with optimised defaults.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will report back then.

I couldn't find the maximum voltage for your memory.
Try using +0.1 for 1.9 volts or +0.2 for 2.0 volts if needed.
2.1 volts for your memory might be safe.
You want to use the lowest stable voltage setting.
The MCH OverVoltage Control setting is probably the problem.

Hello, just tried your settings after loading optimised defaults but still no good :(
I tried again with +0.3V for the DDR2 OverVoltage but that doesn't do the trick either.

When booting with those settings sometimes the computer will restart once at the start and then run, and sometimes it will just run with no restarts.
But both times the monitor won't power up and there will be no post.

Go to http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post312040, post #4 and copy the generic bios template into a plain text editor (Notepad, etc.). Press CTRL + F1 at the main bios screen before you enter the MIT section. Fill in your current settings from the MIT section in your bios. Any of the current settings that are using AUTO defaults should say [Auto] in your template. For any bios template settings that don't appear in your bios, type in "N/A".

If you see a red warning message box when you enter the MIT section, that means that the system couldn't boot with the current settings and that it booted with safe bios settings.

Post your bios settings once you have completed it.

My Computer froze for a couple seconds while typing this, and then restarted, after I unplugged the corsair and replugged the generics. Never happened before. Don't know if it's relevant though.
No red warning box in the MIT either.

With your generic ram installed, what memory speed was used with 4GB? With 6GB?
What is the brand and model number of the generic ram?

With your generic ram installed and your most recent freeze/restart, were you still using the same or similar settings as you were using with the Corsair installed?

Before you installed your Corsair memory, did you ever run any stress tests using Prime95 or any other similar programs?

The generic ram was all the same model, besides from being 1gb and 2gb revisions.

    I think this might be them here: Newegg.com - Transcend 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model JM800QLU-2G

I reverted back to normal voltage control after putting in the generic ram (although I was running them at +0.2V yesterday after trying to get the Corsair to work, with no freezing).
    No restarts since then though.

I've never run any stress tests either.

So why you need the DHX if you got 6GB working?
