Question No DVI on certain screens

I have a new (4 months old) Gigabyte GV-R645OC-1GI 1GB PCIe graphic card that I stuck into an Optiplex 390 running Windows 7 64-bit. Before installing the Catalyst software, both ports work and show content on 3 separate screens. After installing the latest Catalyst software, either from the AMD or from the Dell site, the DVI output stops working (screen goes to standby) after the W7 logo disappears and before the GUI starts.

Both screens work fine (VGA & DVI) with the same cables (DVI-D SL) on a different computer with an nVidia 6800 PCIe graphic card. The Optiplex works fine with that same nVidia card connected to all of the screens.

I have sent the card back to Gigabyte, they checked it out and sent it back to me 3 weeks later. Unfortunately, the DVI problems persists.

So I did some extensive testing…

    Hardware and software used:
A – Dell Optiplex 390 with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (all SP and updates installed)
B – Dell Dimension 8400 with XP Pro 32-bit (all SP and updates installed)
    C – Gigabyte GV-R645OC-1GI
    D – nVidia G-Force 6800
    E – Dell 1907FPVt screen
    F – Dell 2405FPW screen
    G – Dell 1907FPc screen
H – AMD Catalyst software (multiple versions)
    I – Dell HD 6450 software (R289243)
    J – nVidia software

    A + C + E + H = NO DVI
    A + C + E + I = NO DVI
    A + D + E + J = DVI
    B + C + E + H = NO DVI
    B + C + E + I = NO DVI
    B + D + E + J = DVI
    A + C + F + H = NO DVI
    A + C + F + I = NO DVI
    A + D + F + J = DVI
    A + C + G + H = DVI
    A + C + G + I = DVI
    A + D + G + J = DVI

It turns out that the Gigabyte GV-R645OC-1GI will not work with certain screens! Again, these screens work perfectly fine with the nVidia card… This makes me wonder if there might be an EDID corruption with the 1907FPVt and 2405FPW screens. I’ve read of others with various Dell screens having the same sort of issues. I just have to find out what to do about it!

I'm experiencing the same issue with a Gigabyte HD 6450 graphics card as well (mine is the fanless GV-R645SL-1GI). Also with Dell 1907 screen via DVI. The Dell monitor works fine outside of Windows7 and before loading the ATI Catalyst drivers. But once the Catalyst driver is loaded, the monitor goes to sleep once Win7 loads.

Do you know if this affects all ATI HD6450 cards, or just Gigabyte ones?

After a long battle with Gigabyte, they finally swapped out the card for one with an nVidia chip...
