    Just flashed a rev 1.1 board back down to F9 AND IT RECOGNIZES the drive AND BOOTS!

    Unfortunately I can't (edit can to can't) run any of the faster Phenom II quad cores or the 6 core cpu's from F9.

    Oh well....regardless of their results...it does not work for me...F10, F11 & F12A
    rt

    Dear customer,

    We got the results from our testing lab, They are not able to duplicate issue, they tested with bios F11, F12A both boots from USB flash drive fine.
    Please do attempt to test F11 and F12A bios again, after bios updated, make sure reset bios to load fail-safe defaults and load optimi8zed defaults, make sure enable all USB controller under integrated periphrals, set first boot device to USB HDD save setup exit system restart should boot from USB flash drive ok.
    Do format a USB flash drive as DOS bootable disk in Windows system that you can test boot with it.

    Best regards,

    Gigabyte technical support team.

    From post #42:
    Unfortunately I can run any of the faster Phenom II quad cores or the 6 core cpu's from F9.
    Should this be can't run?
    Are you only testing with an Ubuntu bootable usb? Have you tried booting with a DOS formatted bootable usb?

    Go to Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool and see if you can boot with any of the following:
    ** Memtest86+ V4.20 (25/01/2011) **

    * Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.gz)
    * Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)

    * Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable Binary (.gz)
    * Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable Binary (.zip)

    * Download - Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7) *NEW!*
    * Download - Pre-Compiled EXE file for USB Key (Pure DOS) *OBSOLETE*

    * Download - Pre-Compiled package for Floppy (DOS - Win)

    Yes...should be can not...

    Some of the ubuntu disks are formatted FAT32 and some (I believe) are ext2...I've tried both...no cigar...I just flashed the 3rd board from F12A to F9..and now it boots from flash...that's 3/3...when I flash F12A I am following the same procedure so I truly have no idea wtf is going on...I received another email from gigabyte tech support and they said they did not see the problem...I believe them but I also believe there is a problem with some subtle details to it that we are not seeing... I've done the flash + optimized Settings and that does not work. I am not expecting any new BIOS for this cpu since it's getting a bit old...it's AM2+/AM3 and I am not certain if AMD is planning on any more AM3 cpu's...I think it does recognize a usb cdrom and hard drive...not 100% certain on that I thought I had tried but I'm not sure....

    Also..again...I am using the same flash drive for all these tests...go from F12A to F10 and it sees the drive during boot...F12A just does not see it..

    now that I have all 3 machines back to F9 I'm done for a while.....I will probably give it a rest and come back to it later...

    I appreciate all the help...if I manage to get F12A to work I'll be back to post about it...until then I'll see what other interesting stuff I can find here!

    See if they'll provide you with a list of ALL bios settings that they changed AFTER loading Optimized Bios Defaults.
    You might include your cpu model/stepping info (i.e. the CPU-Z CPU window) and memory brand/model/amount information.
    Are they using the F12A bios in their tests?
    Ask them:
    • which cpu and memory brands/models are they using?
    • which USB brand/model are they using?
    • how is the USB drive formatted?
    • what bootable software/programs/applications are on their USB?

    Did you ever locate the F12B bios version to download and test with from the GB U.K. web site?
    The only thing that I can think of is that might be a weird combination of two or more bios settings that might be causing your problems.

    I asked them about the F12B and they replied that it was a typo and he had meant to type F12A...they did say they used F12A for their tests...

    I agree...this has some complexity to it which makes it difficult and I also agree it smells like multiple settings...

    All 3 boards are fine now with F9...everything behaves as it should...I think I will try a few more things..reflash one of the boards back to F12A and play with BIOS settings...not sure that gigabyte can or will be much help...from their perspective it's not a problem and I have to admit that I can understand why they feel that way...even if this is real it's a low impact problem.

    But I have 3 boards that work fine flashed F9/Optimum Settings...the same 3 will not recognize the usb drive during boot after a F12A/Optimum Settings flash so I really don't think it's me other than having bad luck...but 3 boards?

    So far, they seem to be very responsive.
    Make sure that your gently remind them that issue affects three of your motherboards and this will prevent you from upgrading to some newer processors.

    I agree...I am impressed too that they appear to have taken it seriously but I am not sure how much more I can expect from them and I understand that they probably think that the problem is on the keyboard here and I can understand that too however I really don't think that is the case (but it would be GREAT if it was!). I am tempted to F12A the one board I have not and that's a ver 1.0 board...this machine...it's at F5 now...I need to go back to that thread you pointed me too and read it again...do some experiments and maybe haunt gigabyte a bit more. I really would like access to the newer AM3 cpu's...the best I can do now would be a 965...which NewEgg no longer carries unfortunately...they had the best price I have seen.

    I see you have an Asus vh242h...I have one and like it...also have the slightly larger 1920x1200 (vh262h?) which I really like and unfortunately cannot find another...again...great price + free shipping from NewEgg but it is no more..
