Happy to report that flashing to F8b solved my sleep issue. Woke up fine. Very cool! Thanks a ton!!! Latency issue still a problem. Both DPC Latency Checker and LatencyMon gave about the same results as before and LatencyMon again has its WARNING about my CPU with dxgkrnl.sys, USBPORT.SYS and ataport.sys still listed as trouble drivers. How can I check what speed my CPU is running at to investigate this LatencyMon claim that it's being throttled back? Stress tested with Prime95. After a few minutes the temperature went above 80 celsius and I stopped it. Is my cooling system working properly? No BSoD as before, but should it really be getting that hot? Ran the CoolDownTest. Will post that and DPC Latency Checker reading. Still need to check for stability, figure out if my drivers are all updated rightly and fix this intermittent latency. Advice on how to proceed? Is it normal for Prime95 to push temperatures like that? How do I fully test the system in Opt Def before getting back to setting OC? And how do I best square away my drivers?

are you using stock intel cooler? a good quality aftermarket cooler would perform alot better, using latest intel inf chipset drivers? or intel rapid storage drivers? latest lan and audio drivers? all can be found here

I have some more testing to do, but it seems to me at the moment that updating the drivers you suggested and flashing the BIOS to F8b has solved my latency and sleep issues. As for the CPU and the restarts, I have stress tested in LinX 0.6.4 with no errors. Prime95 does kick my temperatures high, making me not want to do it for long, but I don't seem to be getting errors there either and definitely no BSoD. Big thanks, Wazza and Acebmxr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys really saved my ass. I use this computer for CG and Music Production and need it stable for audio right now for some post audio mixing projects this week. I was really stressing!!! Can't thank you enough!

As for addressing my temperatures, I wonder if i7-980X run hot for everyone stressing with Prime95? I have liquid cooling. Will have to look into that and check on my cooling.

One question, though. I have an audio card by RME. This one:

    RME: Hammerfall DSP 9632

However, I went ahead and installed the Realtek drivers you suggested. I had the default audio card disabled in my previous BIOS version. Still seems to be disabled, though I haven't looked in BIOS. Anyway, my question is, why did the Realtek drivers make a difference? Why do I need them at all? In Device Manager I have 4 Nvidia High Def Audio Devices and a generic Microsoft High Def Audio Device in addition to the RME Device. Why do I even need these? How do these work with, or against, my RME card? Trying to make sense of it and figure out why my latency is gone. Hey, if it works, it works! But understanding why could help in the future.

Btw, after updating the drivers you suggested I went to EVGA and downloaded the latest driver for the GTX 480 too. This time it works without any latency!!!

Thanks again, you guys! This is a damn good forum.

Glad to hear its all starting to come together now. As far as your issues with heat, You said your cpu is being water cooled, and is hitting 80c on the cores at stock speed? I would really look into reseating your water block make sure you have enough thermal paste on and not too much at the same time. When stress testing or overclocking for 24/7 use it is suggested that you do not let the cores peak over 80c while stress testing.

Also LinX should work the cpu more then prime95 should. When Using LinX it is suggested you test with All ram, only set for 10-20 rounds.\

Nvidia driver I would always suggest either getting the drivers from the stickie here or direct from Nvidia as they would have the most recent drivers. The people who make the card are not always gonna post the latest driver.

And as for any driver if the device is enabled in the bios it is highly suggest you install the drives for it. The only driver you should use from Microsoft is for the marvel controller (Sata3 controller).

If you are using a add-in sound card and not using the onboard sound I believe you can disable the on-board sound.

when you flashed the bios it would re enable onboard sound,i only suggested installing realtek because i thought thats all you had, make sure azalia codec or onboard sound is disabled in the bios and your soundcard should work fine, can you list your current cpu voltage, and is it a fixed voltage or on auto? you might be able to reduce it further thus reducing heat

you can always un install realtek drivers if you dont need them,it shouldnt affect latency

When I hit 80 degrees I was running Prime95. Ran LinX tonight at ALL setting for 10 passes. Took 2 hours and 20 minutes and rendered my system pretty much unusable while running. Beyond slow response time doing anything in the OS. Will post temps and readings during and after below. Accidentally closed Real Temp before the last pass, but opened it right back up. Temperature readings are clear regardless. Are they way too high? Did it take far too long to get through this test with current settings?

Latency is still around. Takes a very long time for it to get a hit, far more stable, but eventually it does. Didn't notice until late last night. Ran LatencyMon and DPC Latency Checker for quite a while and they gave the all clear. Eventually that changed :( It lists the ataport.SYS as the problem driver in LatencyMon. Both L-Mon and DPC-LC end up saying the system has latency issues, but it takes a long time for them to get there. Runs clean much longer now, but isn't all clear. I want it all clear on this. Possible, right? Disabled Azalia again. Running latency check now. Wonder if that will help. I'll post.

    Voltages in Opt Def:

    CPU VCore: 1.8750
    QPI/VTT: 1.200
    CPU PLL: 1.800
    PCIE: 1.500
    IOH Core: 1.100
    ICH I/O: 1.500
    ICH Core: 1.100
    DRAM: 1.500 @ 0.750 each

Btw, EVGA has a beta driver for the GTX 480 that Nvidia doesn't have up and isn't on the sticky here yet. If anyone's interested:
