Your ATTO benchmarks are perfect for a sata2 setup.
You will be limited to sata2 speeds when a sata3 drive is connected to a sata2 port.
Each ssd benchmark will give different results, as their tests are not identical.
Read any thorough ssd review and you will see very different results with each test.
Using a sata3 port will give higher benchmark scores, but you may not notice a difference in every day use.
With a single ssd boot drive, I don't think that you will have issues using the Marvel sata3 port with your X58 system.

Single SSD drives on Marvell ports, even the new 9182 and 9172, still cause BSOD's (@ mv91xx.sys) and stalls during use.

I see it mentioned just about every week, so keep this in mind when choosing which ports to use (And what you suggest to users ProfJim ).

I think ATTO is better suited for sandforce drives, I know AS SSD shouldn't be used on them because it uses incompressible data which slows the drive and gives incorrect results.

    I stand corrected.
I thought that a single ssd on the Marvel sata3 port was OK, but that using a raid setup on the Marvel sata3 port was a no-no.

Ahh, wasn't trying to correct you or anything, just adding in some info, and letting you know I see the Marvell BSOD all the time still across many of the forums I help at.

A single SSD on Marvell is OK, as in you could do it if you wanted to deal with instability and errors/issues, but ya it's not as bad or an absolute no-no like RAID is.

I'm happy with my speeds. Diablo 3 beta loads in a second and BF3 loads maps in seconds. I can also max out the graphics with minimal fps drop, I didn't know there could be a hard drive bottleneck. :D

I don't see any drives in my bios, is this normal? I Can see the all the drives in the Hard Disk Boot Priority list tho.

Hard drives only show on that page up in IDE mode, so no drives in AHCI or RAID is normal as mentioned above!

    Aside from all the above:
I would recommend treating your ssd as 2/3 of its capacity to maintain maximum performance.
The reasons you cant use full capacity are posted elsewhere and I have only a 60GB .
If you store more than 80GB on yours and performance starts to decline that could be a cause.
Marvell:tried mine on it ,there is an abysmally slow boot time, which kinda negates the ssd thing but aside from that it seemed to work ok.

What are your thoughts on ssd caching on newer sata3 z68/p67 as opposed to installing whole OS on the ssd? I've seen very good results only a very slight dip in figures, plus you still have all your mechanical hdd space to use without re installing your OS
