Default P55A-UD4P SATAIII Add-On Card Recommendations Please

I just had a failure when I tried installing an Adaptec 6405E add-on card to get some more SATAIII ports. Its Totally incompatible...when the card is installed, the pc won't even boot to DOS using the floppy drive. Without the card, it boots to both DOS and Win7 just fine. (BIOS is F14)

I was hoping someone here has had success with a SATAIII add-on card.

    Thanks

No...I RMA'd the card before I found this forum. That's why I'm looking/hoping for a success story here.

I looked at the beta BIOS thread, and I saw 15a listed. I'm reluctant to try those. How long will they remain beta before Gigabyte confimrs them with a regular release? Will 15a ever be "finalized"? I ask because the P55A series is what, 4 or 5 generations ago.

They are here months before they appear on gigabytes website, they are safe to use,I've used them a lot for years never had any problems, another thing you could have done was to email gigabyte directly telling them the sata3 card make/model and they would have sent you a custom bios to try

I don't know of any add in cards but I'm sure someone will suggest something

Sorry I did not see this thread before...

So the system would not boot to win7 either with card installed? Did the system atleast "POST" with the card installed?

Im guess win7 was installed on a preexisting hdd on a separate controller? Did you install the drivers for the card before installing it?

Was this the card you tried? Newegg.com - Adaptec RAID 6405E 2270800-R 6Gb/s SATA/SAS 4 internal ports w/ 128MB cache memory Controller Card, Single

Maybe it was just a bad card?

I was looking at either adaptec or LSI or hi point.

Maybe it was just a bad card?

I was looking at either adaptec or LSI or hi point.
While the card was inserted in either a PCIe x1 or a PCIe x8, with or without minicable plugged into new HDDs, the system would not boot to Win7 installed on a pre-existing harddrive in the system, nor would it boot staight to a floppy with DOS. I tried with the card BIOS enabled and disabled, it made no difference...the system would hang at OS startup.

The PC would make it through POST to OS Startup where it would hang.

I contacted Adaptec Technical Support and followed their instructions, so no software is installed before card is inserted in PCIe slot. When you first power on after inserting the card, you interrupt POST and enter card configuration. Once you configure the card, and the RAID, the system re-boots and goes to Windows startup. That's where the P55A-UD4P hangs up. Since the card did it with DOS also, Adaptec Tech Support decided there was an incompatibility with the MB and recommended RMA for refund. So the board and mini-cable are on their way back to Vendor.

Yes...you have the correct card identified.

I would be interested in your results with LSI or High Point.

I looked on Newegg and found feedback on this LSI board:
    Newegg.com - LSI MegaRAID Internal Low-Power SATA/SAS 9240-8i 6Gb/s PCI-Express 2.0 RAID Controller Card, Single

The one negative feedback was from another Gigabyte owner: "Other Thoughts: If anyone knows a product that will work with a GigaByte X58A-UD9 and support 6Gbps SAS/SATA, I'm all ears..."
