    Default new cpu overheatimg in ga-ep45-ds3

    Happy New to all at Tweaktown

    I have installed a new cpu Q9550 and its overheating like mad
    I have a 512 9600gt graphic card
    3 gigs of ram in 2 slots 1x1 gig
    2x1 gig
    hard drive
    dvd/cd drice
    400watt OCZ power supply

    where are you reading cpu temp? be sure to use the latest realtemp or coretemp software as it could be a software bug

    For Q9550 C0 stepping you need BIOS F4, for E0 stepping BIOS F7.
    I've seen issues reading the Q9550 temps by the motherboard with other boards, so best go with the advice in the post above.

    It's not clear what memory you have, is it one 2GB module and one 1GB module?

    Looks like he has 2 ram stick total 1 stick is 1gb and the 2nd stick is a 2gb = 3gb.

    This could have issues while overclocking. As stated above make sure you are using the correct bios/ most updated bios for your board, and 2nd make sure you are using the correct and updated software to read "Core" temps.

    The links that are posted in the sticky and the programs we use are for windows. The only change I can see in your bios is setting vcore manually or to normal. Auto tends to over volt.

    If indead the cpu is over heating you have 2 solutions. 1 recheck the heatsink contact with the cpu. Make sure you have enough thermal compound on the cpu. Much can be bad also so make sure its just enough. 2 If cpu is still overheating and you sure you have good contact then you will need better cpu cooler. I hope you are not use the intel stock heat sink.

    ok what i did was run ubuntu live and did some test with nothing running only command prompt and firefox open
    the cpu does whine simetimes
    no i am noy useing the cooler that came with the cpu

    700mV Clock Drives show you are running with BIOS' safe-defaults.
    Load optimized-defaults and make any changes need (boot order etc.)

    Nothing exceptionally high. Could be a tad high for idle, depend on the ambiant temperature.
    Try to put som load on it, Prime95 torture blend if you can ans see then.

    It's likely a capacitor that whines not the CPU, could be on-board or PSU.
