Default Question about booting from CD/DVD drive

Although the CD/DVD drive is first in boot order, it was not recognized when I needed to use it that way. Searching around, I guessed that switching "OnChip SATA Port 4/5 Mode" to IDE in BIOS might fix that, and it did. Why I don't know, because I think the CD/DVD is a SATA drive. In any case, reading the manual, it seems that by doing this I've switched the SATA controller to PATA. Was that the only fix with my set up? Does that affect - slow down - all the SATA HDDs or anything else? Thanks

The drives are still SATA that cannot be changed, what changed it the interface for the OS.
There is almost no difference between IDE to AHCI with most hard-drives.
Only ports 4 & 5 are effected, ports 0-3 as you configured OnChip SATA Type.
There is F9 BIOS update that lists "2.update Raid\AHCI ROM", you may give it a try if you want.

Thanks. Looking more closely, this must have worked because the CD/DVD is plugged into SATA2 ports bank 4/5. I neglected to include in my sig that F9 BIOS is installed.

This still leaves the question why didn't the Samsung CD/DVD drive work until its port was switched to IDE in BIOS. It definitely is a SATA drive.

This question you probably need to direct to GB. Could be BIOS compativility issue with this DVD. If you report it to the support it might be fixed in future BIOS release.
Maybe a conflict with the other hard-drives.
Wouldn't worry about it too much.
