I betting its his optical drives not working with ahci. Either way with bios set to ahci try disconnecting one or the other and see what will alow ahci to detect hardware.

if your optical drive is ide then chances are it wont work in ahci mode, mine didnt until i bought a sata one,but ssd should still work in both ide and ahci modes, same for mechanical hdd's

I'll try disconnecting the optical drives and see if that works. I'm not too keen on trying a beta bios since they address the sandforces. Mine is: PHISON Electronics Corporation produces the PS PS3105-S5 controller
I hope the optical drives will reinstall in ACHI then, both are sata II.
    Thanks to all.

I struck out again. I've tried everything other than a bios update which I have no idea if any of the F11 beta's which are dated the same month as the F10 final would help. Plus the risk involved with an unknown outcome.

Tried each device by it's own? HD SSD and optical?

The BIOS may not recognize the boot sector on the SSD or it may be corrupt.

What I had to do to get mine working was to mount the SSD in a working Windows machine and use disk manager (diskmgmt.msc) to remove the existing volume (partition) on the SSD and then create and format a new one. This rewrites the boot sector and other track 0 information (partition table). After that the BIOS on the problem machine found the SSD without issue.

You can also use the "fixboot" and "fixmbr" utilities on the Windows distribution DVD (they're under the repair menu) to rewrite the boot sector on the SSD.

The following is from another forum post:
    Code:
If you installed in IDE mode you'll need to make the following registry changes before you change the BIOS to AHCI Vista/Win7 ONLY

Enable switching between all IDE/AHCI/RAID modes by changing "Start" Values in these keys to 0 (Win 7 / Vista ONLY)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci\Start
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Pciide\Start
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStorV\Start
My understanding is that all three registry keys MUST be set to zero and that the AHCI.reg file should do this for you.
What are the current settings for these three registry entries?

I do have all those set to 0 but not sure tha I had to change all of them.
It looks his problem is much before that the BIOS does not even start to load windows.

The last one was a 3 so I set it to 0 and after I re-booted it borked my OS. Had to use my system repair disc and restore my back-up system image on my SSD.
So I suppose I'll make due running it in IDE mode. LGA 775 and Sata II ssd constraints i guess.
Thanks for all the assistance and suggestions.
