Default GA-P67A-UD5-B3 Issue - Continuous Restarting

    Good morning,

I was building a computer using the Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD5-B3 Motherboard and for some odd reason, it has been continuously restarting. It starts up (along with the case fan) for a second and restarts continuously. I have tried using different PSUs, different sticks of RAM, visually inspected the CPU pins on the motherboard, cleared CMOS, and removed all other components with no different outcome. I have opened a support ticket with them (Email ID: 1179616).

I did receive a response stating:
    Dear customer,

System power on then off cycle loops, it may appears to be one of the components on system was defected or somewhere shorted. Please test mother board outside the case with procedure below:
    1) Remove all components from board, make sure the 24 pin ATX and the other 8/4 pin 12v both connected to mother board. Take onboard cell battery out for 5 sec clear CMOS.
    2) Remove cpu from socket, check if any bent / broken pin, reseat cpu, insert single stick memory on slot close to cpu, test power on check if cpu fan runs,
    3) Test with other power supply if board still power cycles .
    4) Insert graphic card back, connect monitor test boot if system be able to power on.
    5) DDR3 using 1.5v standard, mother board bios memory voltage is base on 1.5v ( default). Check current memory voltage spec( spec printed on memory module label) adjust memory voltage match under M/B intelligent tweaker memory voltage control.
For example: memory is 1.65v type, change memory from 1.5v to 1.65v.
    6) Swap out other stick memory on same slot test again if system can power on but not able boots, it could be particular bad memory stick issue.

    Best regards,

    Gigabyte technical support team.

I have done steps 1-3 and have written back to them asking if they have any other troubleshooting procedures, but have not responded since. It's been quite frustrating for me...

Has anyone encountered this issue and if so, what have you done to resolve this?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi welcome to the forums.

Yes this is a very common problem. Did you try steps 4-6? Boot loops can be cause by any number of things. So its best to try every step/suggestion that is given as you could pass the one that is effecting your situation.

A few other things to check would be to make sure you are using the latest beta bios for your board. All the latest bios's can be found here http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...beta-bios.html

Before flashing please read this thread http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ash-guide.html

After you have flashed to the most recent beta bios please update the back-up bios to the same version. Here is a video to see how that is done. How to update your backup bios on GIGABYTE P67 boards - YouTube

The other thing is to make sure the system is 100% stable at Stock setting. This is done by running a few programs either LinX, Prime95. These will tell you if the system is stable or not.

Also manually setting ram speed, timings, and voltages.

Once you have gotten the system stable by addjusting voltages see if you still encounter boot loops.

Thank you for your quick response!

I have just connected the graphics card back in and it continued to restart (nothing came on in the monitor).

Is there a way to get into the BIOS to do step 5 as well as update the BIOS and such? I have attempted to use all of the different sticks of RAM I have to no avail.

When exactly are your boot loops happening? Have gotten windows installed? Is it only when you tell windows to restart, or does it happen when you turn your computer on?

Did you make sure to reconnect the power to video card?

For testing you should have 1 stick ram, video card, cpu, 1 hdd, keyboard, mouse.

Yes I would suggest updating the bios before test any further as long as you can get into the bios. Use a usb stick to update from.

I did get Windows 7 installed when I first turned on the power (which was fine at the time). I was trying to figure out a network problem because that computer wasn't able to connect to the network via the ethernet cable. The boot loops occur when I first turn on the computer. There is about a five second interval between loops.

Yes, I have reconnected the power cords to the graphics card.

Is there a way to get into the BIOS so I can try updating it?

Del key to enter bios then F8 to enter q-flash

Are you getting any on the monitor? Do you have a case speaker connect to the speaker header right next to where you connect the case power button and rest button? Try clearing the cmos again. Need to get the screen on the monitor to show first.

If the boot loos happen on power on from a off state how may loops does it do before finally starting. Normal start can be upto 2 loops before starting has it has to double check settings before starting.

Try reseating the video card double check all connections and the monitor cable.

I have rechecked the all connections and cables as well as clearing the CMOS. There are no sounds that came through the speakers when it was boot looping. I let it boot loop several times (like 30 times?), but nothing came on the monitor.

ok I better understand the problem.

with the system off remove the power cord from the psu. Press and hold the on/off button from the case or the motherboard for 1 min to remove all power. Remove the cmos batter and press and hold the cmos reset or should have a jumper on motherboard for clear cmos for upto 5 min. Then try starting the system.

If it is still just boot loops with no start try again with 30 min to 24 hr clear.

When you no sounds from the speakers. I am not talking about the speakers on your desk. This should be a very tiny speaker thats inside the computer case.

Untill you can get the system to post and show a display on your monitor you cant update the bios.

    Thank you for your help!

I have received an email response from Gigabyte Tech Support and they told me to RMA it which I have already filled out and awaiting their approval.

I will try this out and see if it helps!

PS - I am not attempting to start an RMA discussion (to the moderators) so my response should be okay, right?

Try the extended clear first if that does not work then yes go ahead with the rma.

You are fine. Let us know if the extended clear worked or if you ended up rmaing the board. Just no discussion of any rma issues you may have with gigabyte
