    the qpi/vtt voltage
i started on the 1.435 as this is what it set to auto with 1600 running
i have tried lowering it and going above
i have also tried from 1.6 to 1.66 with dram but this was set at 1.6 also with xmp prfile 1 1600

it seems that no matter what it is all set to it wont accept that mem multi going to x10 that gives 1600 with overclock

i have set memory to auto and trieed setting myself in expert

as soon as i bring it up to 1600 with cpu overclock it wont happen

It might just be that this particular memory kit isn't playing nice with this board? Can you borrow another set to test with from a friend or family member, so you can verify if this is the issue?

I'd let you borrow a set, but your too far away :( Is this the Geil black dragon model by chance??

yes it is the black dragon
but i am planning on getting a 12gb kit in next week or so now
what tri channel ram would you reccomend for this board?
*edit*i think i would prefer 3x4gb sticks rather that 6x2gb to get to my 12gb.. what do you think *edit*

but if this runs fine in xmp profile at 1600 no problem, then why not with the overclock
when it does run in xmp the qpi/vtt is auto to 1.435v

i think its something to do with the f8b bios as pretty sure it all worked together before i updated bios and loaded new win7 but you prob know what was changed in that so

I knew it! I can't remember what the threads were about, so I can't find them, but I know there has been a few threads in the past where users had issues with black dragon kits.

Do you need 12GB, or is it just cheaper that way than buying 6GB kits? If you don't need 12GB, don't get it! 4GB modules are not as fun to play with compared to 2GB modules, they work fine an all but they just aren't as easy to overclock and can't do lower timings as good as 2GB modules. I know 4GB based kits are cheap these days, so that may be the most economical route, but if you don't need 12GB then for sure look around at 6GB kits instead unless the price difference is huge.

Auto from the board/BIOS is what sets that QPI/Vtt, not the memory itself, so any kit you run at those exact settings with QPI/Vtt on auto would set the same amount of voltage. I'm not sure why XMP would work at stock but not with your overclock and or manually setting things, could be partially incompatible or as I mentioned above about past users experience and they just aren't playing nice with this particular board

Got any Mushkin in your area? So I take it you don't have, or can't find, a set to borrow to test with for a little while?

nah i only have ddr2 laying around
i do need that sort of advice on the memory and that is what im looking for

the reason i said 3x4gb is that i have read of problems filling all 6 slots
but i thought 12 would be better than 6gb of ram but happy to stick to 6gb and get the better quality

yes i would have thought i could get anything memory wise so mushkin shouldnt be a problem
    what model do you think?
i like to buy from overclockers Overclockers UK
but will buy from most mail order companies in the uk

Filling all slots would be harder on the board than 3x4GB, but if you don't need 12GB then as you mention you could get a better quality 6GB kit instead.

Ya, you may have to look around at the more obscure UK sites to find Mushkin, I know some places do carry them though. If you want to check them out, let me know and I'll see what UK places I can find that carry them.

Well they have MANY good 6GB kits, so I can't really just suggest a model because there would be too many.

I do see some kits in the UK, but mainly 3x4GB, so you might just have to go that route (They are cutting back on 2GB module production here too, if not stopping altogether?)

I know this seller ships worldwide, and is a great seller! His kits often ship directly from Mushkin too, so if you are an ebay user then you might want to look at his sales. He does have a couple 6GB kits too, and I think better prices on his 12GB kits than most of the UK stores, but I know shipping and taxes might kill those deals. If I were to buy a 6GB kit, it would be from him because he has some of the CAS 6 ones still, Radioactive or the blackline ones if you don't like yellow (See good images of the Radioactive heatsinks in my review linked in my signature, they are nice!)
