There are quite a lot of options between 3.6GHz and 4.6GHz, it don't have to be one or the other.

I don't quite understand your question about clearing settings. You can save your setting in a BIOS profile (F11), to the BIOS and/or usb flash drive, and reload them later (F12).
BIOS profile do not migrate between BIOS versions, so having the settings on paper is a good idea.

AIDA has a memory benchmark, I use MaxxMEM² - PreView myself.

You are a gamer I am guessing by your SLI configuration. If 3.8GHz or 4GHz with lower memory frequency will give you better gaming, and overall performance than 3.6GHz at 1600, why should you care at all about memory frequency?

that is true and yes your probably right(and to me these benchmarks show its slower at 1600 that at 1280 with cpu overclocked but i dont really know what your looking for in these)

so one is with a 3.6 cpu overclock and mem at 1280 the other with mem at 1600 but with a stock overclock

    talk me through it

and yes gaming is the only real work my pc does

To me too, but why stop there?
    Try 180 bclk, x8 memory # 8-8-8-25, x20 CPU for now.

If not then 175, or check if you can us CAS 7 with bclk 166 so ypu can gain a little more and have your original 3.8GHz

heres a bench at 3.8 with memory at 1328 with timings of 7-7-7-24-1T
    fastest yet
i950 with gigabyte x58 ud5 memory and overclocking help please-mem-1328-cpu3-8-png

so not only would i need to run memory at 1600,i would also have to get the timings down that it uses in xmp profile1 as that is 9-9-9-28-2T and was slower at this benchmark than this running at 1328
so unless i could do that then according to these benchmarks i may as well run it at this?or a bigger clock with lower multiplier?

    im thinking out loud

so why sell something that when it runs its fastest , its actually running slower

i will try a few of the settings now

    cheers
