    Default gigabyte x58a oc @ 5d bios

    Hi guys

did an update to the 5d bios and i did run in too a "problem"
have my OC bios backup setup somewhere on a usb pin i cant find atm so was just thinking i would go from the 4G button and OC from there... i thought

When i click it and start up it would start up, shut down, start up shut down and start up again, and reload system default bios

when i then go into bios it would say OC failed ect ect

    and i see it OC it to 4.8ghz with a 200x24 :-/

so is it just mine or is this a fault in the new BIOS?

thought i could just lower the multiplier but i do believe some other stuff also is much higher than it should be, as i did not go true it all as i needed the PC to pay some bills i just skipped it and loaded system defaults(did though try 2-3 times)

yes i can just do it from scratch but i think its much easier doing it from the "factory OC" :-)

    /Alex

You cannot migrate BIOS settings across different versions, you may use it as refernce though.
There are like 3 or 4 parameters you usually change for X58 OC and you can't remember your settings?

How did you flash F5d? Did you use q-flash or @bios? When you flashed did you load optimized defualts before and after along with clear dmi pool data?

If not please start over doing so. I have been on F5d for awhile now and have not had any problems but then again I have not used the 4G button. I can do so after posting so.

If you could please enter your complete hardware list in your sig

Ok back after testing 4G button on F5d.

Loaded Optimized defaults saved and rebooted.

Shut the system down. Pressed 4G button.

Started system. System went through a few codes on the post screen shut down for a few sec. Started back up with 4G button lit.

System went though a few codes and shut down again started up again went thought a few codes and then booted at failed overclock.

Tried a few times and apears not to work. When it failed I looked at the settings that it was trying to use and all looked good except vcore. It set LLC2 with vcore at 0.900v. Not sure what that would work out to for a voltage. I forget the lowest this cpu will work at 4ghz.

Maybe LSD can test also with his X58-OC also to confirm. Ill send him a PM.

As a side note it is still highly suggested to do all overclocking in the bios manually not with a auto overclock button. But the button should still work if they have it on the board.

Edit 4G button was setting 20x200 with ram profile 1 setting @ 1600

So Ace, did you confirm this or do you need me to setup my board for a final confirmation (It's not setup right now, but I can set it up)?

What memory (Speed and timings for default speed) and what CPU are you using (Ace I see your info)? And did you guys both flash the secondary BIOS to match the main or not? As for that later part, it may not matter, but if I test I'll test both ways.

I'd also advise you guys right now to hookup a DMM to Vcore if you have one, since you are already setup and can test anytime. I say this because I've seen auto Vcore set 1.7-1.8V+ before, and if that's part of what's causing this error for you guys you need to know for sure now so you can stop trying to boot with the 4G button.

I only did the quest test I described above. I thought maybe you would be able to test not knowing your board was not setup.

I think my backup bios is still set to F3. I do know my 4G button did work on older bios's. Which one it stopped working for me not sure. I only used the feature once or twice. Only checked for the OP thinking it would still worked. I could try testing again for the OP but stated its best to overclock in bios.

I dont remember last time when the button worked what it set for vcore if it set auto or if it set vcore manually let alone set llc to level 2 instead of level 1.

Its late now but if need for me to test further I can test tomorrow with DMM and see what vcore is doing.

I can set it up if needed, but ya mine's not setup right now as I just setup X79 instead. It wont take me long if you need me to test, I just asked because if you need me to I have to pull out the X79 because I only have one water block and no air cooler I'd trust to run 4Ghz on X58.

It IS best to overclock manually, but if this BIOS is bugging out and setting Vcore to 1.7-1.8V on failed attempts again we need to know! Yes, please do test again and be sure it fails as mentioned, then you can see with the DMM to verify what I mentioned isn't happening. If it is happening we'll need to report it (Again)

@ Wasp - We can help you overclock manually, for sure, just let us know if your willing to go that route instead of the 4G button. As mentioned above, when you do find your old overclock profile, it is NOT advised to use that between BIOS versions, so please do not do that.

    Chieftec Nitro Series BPS-1200 1200W

thats the specs real quick though

will have a look on it all again

was thinking more that switching over to the other bios and running the old bios and then the old profile, but
yes i did go optimized default in the bios before i used q-flash, but your also failed so
did not flash both of the bios just the "main" one, no idea what the other one is

the button stopped working on the 5d, worked like a charm on the 4b

well my target would prob be i dont know 4.5ghz stable
running the profile 1 in the memory dont seem to be any problem for it even though
    running 8-8-8-20 @1600mhz
