you might do better with an odd cpu multi instead of an even, try 17 or 18x uncore freq and what cpu and qpi/vtt voltages are you using?
so try a 23x165 bclk and slightly oc the ram at 10x165=1650mhz
I've had my GA-X58A-UD3R rev 2.0 for a while. I've mainly ran at stock speed with an i7 970 (3.2ghz)
My Ram is G.Skill 1600Mhz
Here's actually the modest overclock I've been trying
I normally could have my ram with the XMP profile so that it actually runs at it's rated 1600Mhz with a x12 multiplier
when I try to overclock to the settings above I got the error:
"The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking..."
I did not change any voltages or timings.
I now just tested a BCLK of 134 just to see if any overclock would work and it booted. Ram is underclocked to 1340mhz with this so as to have the 10x multiplier which seems to work
So what is wrong with my settings or could I have a bad or underperforming board/cpu?
I heard you need to put Uncore ratio at twice the Memory frequency but then maybe you don't have to with the 970 cpu?
ALSO an interesting thing, I just upgraded BIOS to FH version with @BIOS, upon restart it did not show POST screen but PC power remained on, did not make the ticks and beeps or display anything
I then had to reboot a few times, then updated with Q-FLASH to make sure bios was installed right, it then did the SAME THING upon restart it hung for 6 minutes then i manually shutdown and it booted up but did show LOGO screen for 30 seconds before going to BIOS after pressing DELETE
So my board does seem odd but I'm wondering if I can just fix the settings to get this overclockr unning.
I have aftermarket air cooling and 700w power supply.

Interesting. Is that a common hardship?
Voltages are stock
it showed:
QPI/VTT 1.175
CPU PLL 1.800
QPI PLL 1.100
IOH CORE 1.100
ICH I/O 1.500
ICH Core 1.100
Dram 1.5
Right now I have 140 BCLK running with ram 10x and CPU still 24x Uncore 26 or the lowest I believe
I'll try your settings
Some CPU's are more stable using an odd or even multiplier so its worth testing either, uncore freq can be slightly lower than 2x on that chip
Idk what CPU voltage your using but for 3.8ghz you might be able to set CPU v to normal in CPU voltage list

You cam disable the logo in Adanced BIOS Features.
Wat was VTT set to with XMP selected? You can still select XMP and just change memory multiplier.
Okay I restarted to try to use the settings that wazza300 suggested
but it WOULD NOT get into BIOS I press DEL and it shows "preparing to enter BIOS" or whatever
My BCLK is still 140 a very slight overclock
I noticed my RAM timings are loose, I should have fixed them when I underclocked the RAM last time i was successfully in BIOS
TURBO mode must be on because multiplier for cpu was only set to 24 in BIOS

BIOS defaults don't mean much once you change something from default, and running the memory with XMP is changin from default.
Clear the CMOS and start over. Short the CLR_CMOS pins for a few seconds. Do it while the PSU is off and you discharged the capacitors by pressing the power button and start over.
Can you please attach a CPU-Z text report(CPU-Z -> About tab -> Save Report (.TXT)) with XMP selected at stock BCLK
