    Question [Q6600 (G0)] + [EP45-UD3LR] + [Crucial BTracer 800Mhz] = ????Mhz

    Hi,

i was wondering if you guys can help me overclock my system, i know this is old hardware but if i can get my q6600 to 3.6 then ill get a new card (probably 560ti) and i should be fine for a year or two.

    specs:

    Processor:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (G0)
    Motherboard:
    MSI P6N Platinum 650i SLi <<< (replacing this with GA-EP45-UD3LR rev 1.0)
    Memory:
4x1024MB RAM 800MHz Dual Channel Ballistix Tracer
    Hard Drive:
    160GBx2 WD SATA 7200RPM in Raid 0
    Video Card:
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB G92
    Operating System:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Computer Case:
GIGABYTE 3DAURORA (Black With Blue Fan LEDs)

my goal is to get my Q6600 to ~3.6ghz stable 24/7 with lowest voltage possible, and because i have 4 sticks of ram i will not be OCing them (or should I ?).

i have never OCed before but from what i read online is that i can run my FSB 400x9 (1:1 with ram) which is the sweet spot for my cpu.

    more info here,,

as you can see from the picture I've had a bad motherboard with 650i chip-set which can barely hit 3.0ghz and a bad OCer specially for quads so i got me a EP45-UD3LR from ebay to max my cpu OC.

i which i could find UD3R or P but both are hard to find and way overpriced for my liking.

and i almost forgot, this is my cpu cooler:

ASUS Lion Square Heatsink Review - FrostyTech.com

    so where should i start?

unlink your memory first and that q6600 will do 3.6 all day long
there is so much out there on q6600 overclocking
cant remember exact voltage but it was very low on most q6600's
then when you have yous stable cpu overclock ,like you say it should then link in at the right speed at 1.1
i had one of these chips(my son still has it) with an evga 780 board and it was a fantastic overclocker

I haven't seen one OCed to 3.6GHz on air cooling, and even if it could it won't with the cooler you have.
Why do you need the new board the MSI does not OC well?

    thx guys for reply;

    well where should i start.

the mobo i tried fsb from stock 266 to 333 and down-clocked my memory for 1:1 with all voltages on auto and everything runs fine but after i wake up from s3 i get bsod almost immediately and it got my raid 0 corrupted too.

as for the cpu i think i have average or maybe below average VID which is 1.2500v and from what i hear should give me a lot of headroom when OC to 3.6ghz.

    thx guys.

In general leaving voltages on auto is not recommended. There is no way to tell if they change or what to.
Wake up problems are quite common when OCing, make sure your system is stable before you even attempt sleep.

Low VID is not a guarantee for better overclocking. My E7200 has ultra low VID (1.0625) and it OC to just the same level as the E7600, yes with much lower voltage but about the same temperature.
It also depend on what stability evel you insist on, if you are good with only Prime95/OCCT then tou may clock higher, if you must run IBT temps will max sooner.

these q6600 were clocked all day long at 3.6 on air
dont know about the cooler you have so cant comment on that
but 3.6 that is no great shakes for this cpu at all
i dont know about this board you have but on my old board 3.6 was a basic clock
i was on air at that and more on my q6600 with a thermalrite 120 extreme(still use in on my set up now)
3.6 was a 24/7 clock speed on those with a decent air cooler
disable your power saving features in bios and unlink your memory to begin with and forget about it until you find stable cpu
i do also remember the vdroop was terrible on some of those boards and the pencil vdroop mood worked wonders on my board
aahhh i loved my q6600 and was dissappointed when i upgraded to a 9650 to be honest

Auto, Linked and manual and when i OC i had it on manual.

but still this realy chipset is bad for a quad.

sounds like manual but not sure on that bios or board but on my old one it had the link or unlink option in bios

You can't unlink your memory with that board and CPU, and keep in mind not all Q6600's can do 3.6 easily (With safe voltages and good temps). You may need to try 3.4 first, then work your way up from there.

    Try these settings for 3.4Ghz
