Ah, ill turn of c1e, but eist is still lowering the cpu speed when OS is set to balanced, so although it doesn't save me power, I still get a lower clock at idle ,damn its brand new psu 1200watt, cost a lot as well, the noise was coming out my speakers though not the case, the sound chip was picking up the electrical noise, there was more than a squeel, I got clicks, scraping, hissing, .

what brand psu? dont change it if it was expensive just keep fixed voltage,im got guaranteeing it will cure it but from others on here 99 times its psu related

for me turning off c1e stopped the noise or reduced it so i could hrdly hear it,but this cheapish novatech psu doesnt make the noise

yes eist is the main one,c1e doesnt matter if you set to balanced in windows,it should save you power at idle

Psu is coolermaster silent pro m, 1200watt, I have an 850watt same make same name, still had the noise, before that I had a cheap one 750watt, from alpine and I'm sure I still had that noise, this is when I'm running stock with those features on, when I overclocked the noise went away, obviously turned of dvid, but because I've had to add even more voltage with dvid on, the noise was like 4times louder, I still here it slightly now when 5.1 speakers are on, but if i just use 2 separate speakers in stereo green jack, I hardly hear the noise no matter whether dvid is on or off, I think its the board.

yeah could be the board, gpu, psu or a combination of the three, closing down easytune helps sometimes, for me i think it was mostly the psu as it was a cheapo one,but this one im using doesnt make any noise, tested it on a asus x58 too and no noise

I think one of the 5.1 surround jacks is loose, wobbly, which leaves me to believe the earth for that jack would be broke, I think this is the cause, if i unplug 5.1 and just use the 2 speakers I have ,that noise is nearly silent, can here the noise from about afoot away , any further and. you can't here it, soonas you plunging, turn on 5.1 you can here it even watching vids , playing games , listen to music, but I'm ok with how its setup now, I can hear it, but its not loud.

you might be able to redirect the sound ports in realtek sound manager and use a different port at the back ect,not sure i know you can asign different ports to each speaker

Half of its missing since gigabyte added support for dolby v4, I uninstalled it all and just using generic Windows, sound quality is better in my opinion, can't wait till I have enough money saved for x79 g1 board and cpu to go on it, I made a bad choice getting ga-x58a-ud3r, power delivery on this board is awfull, I can't up the voltage on my gpu without loosing fps, starts throttling when I add voltage to an overclock on gtx 580.

My experience is the opposite. I've had great luck with regular Realtek drivers and bad luck with Gigabyte's Realtek drivers. I run analog out to a 5.1 receiver with no problems. I don't use any of that Dolby crap, I prefer real surround sound.
We'll see how the sound is on the new Z77's. I don't have a lot of faith in anything Creative inspired, at least not software, hardware is ok. I still have 2 Audigy 2 ZS cards around here somewhere I used for years.
