    Default i5 750 OC GA-P55-USB3

Back after a while with a revised OC to my i5-750, came to some conclusions and need some confirmation.

    i5 750, GA-P55-USB3, 4GB Kingston CL7 1333MHZ

I'll give you a basic template of my bios and settings :

    Cpu Clock Ratio : x20
    Turbo Boost, C1E, C3,C6,C7 : All Disabled
    Intel Speedstep Technology : Enabled
    BCLK : 180
    Ram Multi : x8 - 1440MHZ - 7-8-7-20 (tried 7-7-7-20 got error in Prime95)
    LLC : Disabled
    CPU VCORE : Normal
    DVID : +0.000000
    Qpi : 1.21
    Ram : 1.66

It appears that despite disabling all C-States the CPU can downclock when on idle. Is this because i have Balanced Power profile in Win 7 and EIST enabled? Can i keep this OC without C-States and have the same result? My thought was to shoot for an OC without Turbo enabled (x21 - x24) so i searched around and saw that for Turbo to work you have to Enable the deeper C-States (C3 etc). So with Turbo disabled those C-States and no longer needed right? Plus i read that C1E can cause more problems than help and since the CPU throttles i disabled that too.

as long as eist and balanced profile is used you dont need to enable c1e,can enable c3/c6 it shouldnt affect stability, turbo should affect stability either just lower your bclk to compensate

    Hey Wazza.

I could force the x21 multi by using turbo with 175 BCLK to result to 3.67ghz but the vcore in CPUZ went from 1.2 to 1.26 and the watts from 95W to 109W. It isnt worth it for 600mhz.

Why should i enable the higher C3,C7 states? Will they do something more than my pc is already doing at idle? Are they needed for CPU life span? As i read (and correct me if i am wrong) those higher C-States park or halt the cores in order for Turbo (x24) to kick in. Since i have disable that feature shouldn't it be wise to disable those c-states as well?

i dont know tbh,i think it puts cpu in deeper power saving but not sure,i always left mine enabled on my ud5,are you using normal or auto for cpu voltage? use whatever works best for you, theres no right or wrong way really

cpu life wont be affected,it will run fine for years

    CPU VCORE : Normal

I also noticed big vdroop but i left LLC Disabled since it uses less vcore around 1.2 if you checked out my pics in the 1st post.

vdroop is fine if its not causing instability,

Ok, thanks. One final question since you know a fair amount of things. About the balanced power plan, there is a PCI Express setting : Link State Power Management. Currently is set to Moderate power savings. Is this setting throttling the GPU or it does something else? Like on sleep or something? I read a lot of opinions of turning it off. Will this mean that if i turn it off the GPU will run at 3D clocks all the time?

not sure on that,my board didnt have it,only way to check would be to disable it and see what affect it has in gaming ect

can download gpu-z to see whats happening or look in nvidia/ati ccc control panels, use something like fraps to see if it affects the games framerates

it is an option in the advanced settings of the balanced power plan in windows 7, not the bios.

ohh,no i dont have that either,it could be p55 only due to it reducing pci-e bandwidth when you use sata/usb3,i dont think it affects the first pci-e slot just the second one,it gets reduced to 8x or 4x speed
