The quickest and easiest thing to do is:
    1. enter the bios
    2. load optimized bios settings
    3. save settings and exit
    4. re-enter the bios and make any required bios changes, such as boot order, voltages, etc.
    5. save these basic settings as a bios profile using F11 at the main bios screen and use a profile name such as Defaults
    6. save settings again and exit
    7. boot into your operating system
    8. pray

If the procedure above doesn't help:
    1. turn off your system
    2. unplug the power supply cable from the wall outlet or the back of the psu
    3. press and hold the front panel on/off switch for 10 - 20 seconds
    4. place a jumper block on the clear cmos pins for 5 minutes
    5. remove the jumper block and restart your system
    6. enter the bios and load your saved bios profile using F12 at the main bios screen
    7. save settings, exit, and boot to your operating system

Sometimes removing the motherboard battery is required when clearing the cmos.
You might need to clear the cmos for 20 minutes or for several hours, sometimes an overnight cmos clear is required.

    OK thanks.
This procedure didn't help - I have removed battery last night for 10 or more hours and also power supply cable was unpluged whole night.Situation does not change.
*But I have not pressed the front panel on/off switch for 10 - 20 seconds.
    Also not loaded optimized settings.

I will try first with optimized bios settings later today. Then will remove some of hard drives to check, and also can try with ddr2.. but need to find some modules first.

You can test with a single memory module, DDR2 or DDR3.

    Hello again.
Tested a number of things ... and maybe found the problem.
    1. Load optimized settings didn't help
    2. Tested all 3 Disks alone - didn't help

    3. Replaced ddr3 modules with 2x2GB ddr2 (800Mhz , SPD settings) - and tested. So far so good. My system was up for 57 min. , and shutdown was possible.
Also tested with Windows OS for 10-15 min up - shutdown normal.

Maybe these ddr3 modules cause this issue , but still I can't confirm 100%. Need more time and tests. (I'm not @ home right now)
But first when I switched to ddr3 (from 4 x 2GB ddr2) there was no problem ...which is strange. As I said problem start after attaching HDD to eSata.. but if the problem is with DDR3, probably this is a coincidence.

Thumbs up Re: GA-P35C-DS3R won't shutdown after OS halt.

Glad to hear that you're making progress when switching to DDR2 memory.
While it appears to be coincidental, there might also be a problem with your DDR3 memory or settings.

    Possible DDR3 issues:
Running your 1600MHz memory at 1333MHz might be "too much" for your P35 motherboard.
Even though your memory passed Memtest, the timings might be too tight.
One or more of the DDR3 modules might not have been properly seated in the memory slot.

I've seen quite a few EP45 ddr3 systems that struggled with 1333MHz speeds, and they often had to start with 1066MHz and work up to higher memory speeds.

Performing extended stability tests with Prime95 (Blend, small FFT, and Large FFT) will often find problems, sometimes quickly and sometimes after 3 - 8 hours. Some have reported stable stress tests, only to have Winzip or 7zip fail when zipping and unzipping large folders that contain at least 8GB (or more) data.

I suggest using your DDR2 memory for now and run stability tests to ensure that everything is OK with your current setup.
Your system might prove to be stable with DDR3 memory running at slightly lower speeds or with looser memory timings.
It's possible that one of your memory modules coincidentally failed at the time you connected a drive to your e-sata port.

I'm using 8GB of 1066MHz memory rated at 5-5-5-15 timings.
My preference is to run this memory with 4-4-4-10 or 12 timings at 875 - 900MHz, rather than use 1000 - 1066MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings. Real world performance is the same, even though memory benchmark scores are higher faster memory speeds.

If you have a question about your bios settings, copy the generic P35 bios template into NotePad or any plain text editor, fill in your current settings and post your settings. http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post312040, post #4.

    Until recently I used the following configuration two kits 4 x 2GB G.Skill F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ @ 1000 Mhz , 5-5-5-15 @ 2.0 V (total 8GB DDR2). Rock stable.

But I decided to switch to ddr3 because is cheap and I sold my DDR2. There was some problems with stability with 1.65 volts Kingston modules (HyperX). Then i tried with 1.5 Volts modules DDR3--> system was stable.
First tried with 8-8-8-21 @ 1333 , then 7-7-7-19 @ 1333 - system was stable at these setintgs (memtest , prime95). And i decided that everything is ok , and was ok.... until the problem

Which Prime95 tests did you run and for how long?
It's possible that your system might run OK with only one ddr3 module, the other module (or memory slot) might be bad.

It would be interesting to see if your system is OK with a different set of ddr3 memory.
Can you borrow a set to test with?
You can also test with your current ddr3 memory at a somewhat lower speed to see if this makes a difference.

Prime 95 for ~ 4 hours.I can borrow other KIT for test but different model.
Also ,will test with my current set @ lower speeds - 1066Mhz .

A different set of ddr3 is fine for testing.
There might be a problem with your current ddr3 memory or with a ddr3 memory slot.
