    From my Q9950 and EP45-UD3P experience I have found that if you run IBT for a quick test and it passes run Prime95 small fft for at least 15 min. If it passes then run Prime 95 for 15 min. if that passes run blends for 15 min. If that passes raise your FSB.

    Now if IBT fails raise vcore until it passes then proceed to small FFT Prime95, if that fails look at possibly low CPU Termination (VTT) Possibly low/high CPU ref Possibly low PLL (clock generator) voltage and adjust as necessary to pass the test.

    Once you pass the small FFT proceed to the large FFT Prime95. If that fails look at possibly not enough vDIMM (RAM voltage), not enough (and rarely too much) MCH core voltage,i
    incorrect MCH ref voltage, and unstable memory timings (includes both main timings ie 5-5-5-15, and also tRead and tRFC.

    Remember to change only one setting at a time then test.

    Also methinks your ram may play a major roll in your particular situation.

    I am running a EP45-UD3P+Q9550 setup at 4GHz. Have taken it up to 4.2GHz, but generally happy to stick with 4GHz. Currently using a Thermalright Venomous X Heatsink and Zalman F3 fan for controlling CPU temp.

    My setup runs ok when using 4Gb (2 sticks) of either Kingston or Geil PC2-8500 memory. Found much more stable when using DDR2_2 and DDR2_4 sockets on motherboard. With Bios "System Memory Multiplier" set at AUTO, even found that My particular memory could be run up at 1140 --> but only with Memory volts around 2.28-2.36 volts.

    Current Bios is F10, however Bios settings below and stability at 4GHz proved just fine with the F4 Bios that originally came with Motherboard


    So for 4GHz, my bios selected settings are:-

    CPU Freq = 472
    PCI Express = 100
    System Memory Multiplier = 2.00B
    Memory Frequency (944)
    Memory Timings = 5,5,5,18
    All other Memory Timings/Settinge = AUTO
    DRAM performance = TURBO

    Load Line Calibration = ENABLED
    CPU Vcore = 1.31875
    CPU Termination = 1.22
    CPU PLL = 1.5

    MCH Core = 1.26
    ICH I/O = 1.5
    ICH Core 1.1

    DRAM Voltage = 2.28

    Where not mentioned for CPU/Chipsets/DRAM, Bios setting is left at AUTO.

    With my setup it was very important to use "System Memory Multiplier" at either 2.00B or AUTO. Of course, an AUTO selection is no good unless your Memory is capable of running at around 1140MHz. So for most people the 2.00B setting would be my suggested way to go.

    I always found it more difficult to establish a stable 4GHz setup when using the 2.00D setting; without fiddling with a lot more parameters. However after a stable overclock was achieved using the 2.00D selection, my computer would sometimes have weird double-loop episodes during initial Boot-up. It was as if there was some difficulty initializing the 4GHz overclock, even although there appeared to be no issues with running 4GHz after boot-up.

    this is what I ment in post #4, keep mem. divider lowish... I never had p45 but what I'm seeing it's a lot like p35 that I had. On that I remember very similar settings to what you are posting 472x8.5 with the 8g(4x2g ocz gold pc6400 quadkit and relativly low voltage) ram at 945ish... also had them ballistix pc8500-1gb, with two of those 8x500 ram at 1200 (and a bit) was doable, but like you said, required a lot more tweaking and some vcore, 4 sticks of that never got higher than 1100something ...

    My quest will have to wait. I am currently out of town until Friday. There's lots of good information coming in, and I do appreciate all the input. Keep it coming.

    I was able to run 425 fsb with the template above. I ran P95 Small FFT without any errors. I then shut down the computer when I left town. My daughter called me today to inform me she couldn't get the computer to boot. I had to navigate her to reset the bios. I was still at stock vcore, so maybe a little more juice is required?

    This is my second P45 type. The first was a ASUS P5Q-E which was equally easy to overclock a Q9550 to over 4GHz. It also had the advantage of better bios options for tweaking memory performance. In fact it was better in a number of ways, but thats another story for another day.

    As previously posted, my experience with the EP45-UD3P (and also a P5Q-E) is to generally change as few of the MIT settings as are "common-sense" necessary to force higher CPU/Memory overclock. The obvious settings to change being Vcore,VTT, MCH core and DRAM volts. With MCH core and DRAM volts being especially important when trying to run with full memory banks (4 sticks).

    And as you say, best to use a lowish memory divider. Where 2.40B (or usually AUTO) is the choice if your memory is known to be good at 1140ish), or 2.00B as long as your memory can run up to around 1000. Of course, if any of your memory sticks are "questionable" even when running at up to around 1000 ---> Then best not to try any overclocking with this motherboard.

    If the above template is as far as you've got and are still having problems, even when simply booting your PC, then something appears seriously wrong with your bios settings, and/or your CPU and/or one or more of your memory sticks?

    For this Mobo/CPU combination you have got to be bold if trying to achieve 4GHz. Which means starting at minimum FSB of 450 (ie, 3.8GHz). Because if you can't achieve this with a Q9550, then something is definitely wrong with your setup?

    As I have previously mentioned, the obvious settings to deal with are Vcore,VTT, MCH core and DRAM volts. With MCH core and DRAM volts being especially important when trying to run with full memory banks (4 sticks).

    And you should be able to run with "DRAM Performance Enhance" at "TURBO", and should input your "5,5,5,15" settings, but other memory parameters should be left to the bios/chipset (ie set at AUTO).

    Also, this mobo is very fussy about "Static tRead" values. Which generally means no problems if set to "AUTO". But otherwise when using Memory Multiplier at 2.00B, then tRead should be set not less than 10; And for 2.40B setting, a tREAD of 9 is generally safe.


    So try those below for the important settings,


    System Memory Multiplier = 2.00B (or 2.40B if memory good to 1140)

    Load Line Calibration = ENABLED
    CPU Vcore = 1.3125
    CPU Termination = 1.22
    CPU PLL = 1.5
    MCH Core = 1.26
    ICH I/O = 1.5
    ICH Core 1.1

    DRAM Voltage = 2.1 - 2.2

    Alright I'm finally home. Here's where I am at; I had problems booting into windows. It somehow became corrupt. I'm guessing it was due to the mobo swap. I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64 & everything runs fine. I then ran P95, and it passed 2 hours of Small FFT, 3 hours of Large FFT & 10 hours of Blend. I did raise my vcore to 1.2625v during this test. I figure I can always back it down later. I have now raised my fsb to 450. I'm going to run P95 and see what happens.
