No, the usb 2.0 ports are Intel.
With luck, the newest Etron drivers will work well and provide a temporary fix.
The usb 2.0 problem might be fixed in a future bios update.

The usb problem might just be a hardware incompatibility.
You can try temporarily disabling the legacy usb option, but this might be a problem when booting or using the bios.
Can you test with a different usb mouse?
I'm not familiar with your Focusrite Saffire 6 audio interface.
Double check that you are trying to use the rear panel usb 2.0 ports, not the usb 3.0 ports.
You could also install a rear usb 2.0 panel that connects to one of the motherboard's usb 2.0 headers.

There might be a problem with one or more of the rear I/O panel usb 2.0 ports.
Have you tested each of the 4 rear usb ports.

    No problem with your questions.
Try testing all rear usb 2.0 ports with a usb drive or other "everyday" usb devices.

well its a brand new pc. if the board is faulty im just going to RMA it. thats why im trying to troubleshoot before taking that leap.

this is the saffire 6 btw http://www.focusrite.com/products/au...saffire_6_usb/

i dont see how it would be incompatible when i know tons of people using it on windows 7. unless your saying its somehow incompatible with my board, which i still cant really imagine but who knows.

And you might be RMAing a perfectly functional motherboard.
Hardware incompatibilities can happen with any hardware, such as memory, mouse, keyboard, psu, add-in cards, etc.
I've seen many instances where some hardware won't work properly in one system but works perfectly in a different system.

I haven't checked your mobo user manual, but it looks like the rear panel usb 2.0 ports are red.
Check each of your usb 2.0 ports with "standard" usb drives, mouse, keyboard, wireless usb, digital camera, etc.
This will help determine if any of the usb 2.0 ports are defective.

It's possible, but unlikely, that the problem is related to your current bios version.
Maybe the new official U1h UEFI bios will help, maybe not.
Call me overly cautious, but I wouldn't be comfortable with the 1st major release of the brand new UEFI bios.

check out Connectivity of USB 1.1 devices on non-root hubs .: Focusrite Answerbase for more information
partial information from the web page:
Connectivity of USB 1.1 devices on non-root hubs
We have found some problems with USB 1.1 devices attached to non-root USB hubs on Windows 7. The cause appears to be a problem in the way Windows handles non-root USB hubs.

Some of the symptoms of this problem are listed below:
    - Interface fails to stream audio at low buffer sizes (below 3ms).
    - Device fails to connect when other USB 1.1 devices are in use and connected to the same non-root hub.
    - It's not possible to use other USB 1.1 devices when the 6 USB is connected
    - Device shows in device manager (under 'Sound, Video and Game Controllers') but doesn't appear in Windows' sound preferences.
    - Streaming of Windows sounds is possible but the Focusrite USB ASIO driver gives an error message when selected.

Whether a device is connected directly to a USB root hub or Generic USB hub can be found in the Device Manager, found in the Control Panel. You should then choose the option 'Devices by connection' in the 'View' menu.

If it is correctly connected to a USB root hub it will appear like this:

If it is incorrectly connected to a generic USB hub it will appear like this:

The problem is particularly prevalent on the new Intel i-series chipsets (Core i3, i5 and i7), both in desktop and notebook format, as these chipsets do not provide a way to connect directly to the root hub.

The workaround is to attach a new USB root hub and connect the device to that instead.

Desktop users can add a PCI or PCIe USB card, which will work as long as the card does not have an internal, non-root hub.

Notebook/laptop users cannot add a USB 2 ExpressCard, as these cards attach a new hub to the existing USB controller and you still cannot connect directly to the root hub. In this case, a USB 3 ExpressCard can be added provided that you are using the latest drivers from our downloads page.
There are several related tech articles at the bottom of the page.

but wouldnt the fact that it works in the front usb port rule out any other compatibility issues besides with the motherboard? but im leaving in a few for the weekend. ill report back after i get back. thank you.

edit: also i tried the saffire 6 on different ports but ill find out which ones are the root hubs and try it in there again.

    thanks for your help!
