Hi everyone, back again, regarding post ~85 in this thread, it appeared to have been the solition to my problem at that time but really iv been having much of the same problem since my last post here, I have now found a better fix (solution) that seams to work much better with 100% better results, I found someone else in the end who had the very same problem and it has indeed turnd out to be a conflict, while having the NVIDIA GTX 660ti and to what I now know to be ANY sound card I tried ending up now with the CREATIVE SB XFi, the steps below I don't take any credit for as someone else figured it out so putting it here for anyone who has this problem.

    1. In the Control Panel, go into the Device Manager. Expand "Display Adapters" and right click on the 400/500/600 series card, and select "Properties". In the tab named General, look for the entry called "Location". It should read, for example, "PCI_Bus_1, device 0, function_0". If using multiple cards please check and note each listing.

    2. Go under "System Devices" and scroll down the list until you see "High Definition Audio Device". There should be at least two entries, possibly more if you have multiple video cards or a sound card. Check them under "Properties" as you did with the video card to see which one matches your the PCI Bus location. Disable (not uninstall) the one that matches your video card.

    3. Look under "Sound Devices" and it should no longer list the Nvidia High Definition Audio Controller (this step might or might not require a restart).

After restarting, a clean install of the Nvidia drivers is highly recommended. This can be done by running the latest driver package, choosing "Custom installation", and checking the box labelled "Perform A Clean Install". This will remove the previous drivers and re-install them rather than over-writing the existing drivers.

if WAZZA cast's his eyes on this im wondering now everything is working 100% with the very nice O/C we did back along weather youd help me clock a little more from 4.0 to say 4.2

Hi wazza, there isn't a +0.0980v I was already at +0.09375v and next one up from that is +0.10000v is there a unsafe limit the dvid can go up to I mean going up to high would that blow a cpu ? I don't know anything about voltages but im guessing that after the . is just a very small fraction of a whole 1v

its been a very warm day here and my room temps have been higher than normal so I am going to try the +0.10000v with the bclk to 200

ok now iv had some time to test a new o/c with bclk set at 200 and dvid set at +0.10000v system loads fine to desktop but as soon as I started prime 95 everything crashed BSOD I tried the next dvid setting up witch is +0.10625 and again same as before and BSOD while starting prime 95, so should I keep going up on dvid ? or is there another setting im missing

all you need to do is monitor the cpu load voltages in cpu-z while stressing, all dvid does is add that amount to the default cpu voltage that's set by intel on each chip

stress the cpu in prime95 with cpu-z open and make a note of the cpu voltage, you want to try and stay below 1.4v,but ive seen many use much higher, also keep an eye on core temps

if its crashing at +0.1000v add two or three clicks more and retest

iv been testing all day and in the end have found the stable 4.2 for this system with 11 clicks up on the dvid
from +0.09375v to +0.16250v the max temp hit while running prime95 for 5 hours was 78c and my idle around 34c so before I tried the 4.2 I was at 4.0 and then the max temp was 68c a total of 10c increase I suppose is about right & v-core now in cpu-z is 1.280 but sometimes flicks up to 1.298, , I think i'll go with the 4.0 as not sure of 24/7 use on the higher temps till I can find a better cooling solation

    thanks Wazza for the help

what was your load cpu v @4.2ghz?

temps are fine, mine would hit 80c

Edit:saw your edited post, those voltages and temps are fine,i would stay at 4.2ghz tbh,you have a pretty decent chip if its using less than 1.3v

yeah this is a good chip, I bought the cpu, motherboard and all 12gb ram from a friend over a year ago and he had 4.2 and even 4.4 wth this but then he had a lovely custom water setup to keep things cool.

a project I keep putting off is a lapping job that I think would help as the thermalright heat sink isn't that flat but that's for another day

this is the second decent overclock iv had now and both down to WAZZA300 a great help many thanks I cant see a rep button on this site if there was one id give you a rep :-)
