Hi wazza, yeah that little heatsink is under the main heatsink and this one covers the mos-fet's i was asking as today i noticed that this heatsink is not even touching anything at all, its very wobaly and was thinking if the mos-fet's are or were getting to hot could that have been causeing the freez ups and by lowering the clocks it hasnt been getting to hot ? i not to good with all this lol but a wobaly heatsink surely isnt ment to be

they do move a little bit but not too loose, idk if they screw down?

i think they are spring loaded, tiny springs underneath the screwheads

the only screws with springs are the 4 that hold the main heatsink to the pcb but the 2x screws that hold the litle heatsink in place are both done up as far as they can be done, i have since removed it now for a closed look and the heat pads that im sure should be on the chips as so they can make propper contect to the heatsink are not even on the chips, all 4 little chips have nothing on them and do not touch the heatsink thus makeing it wobble i think( im prety sure the little squairs of thermal pads are just sitting there in between the chips, i could have an even closer look and maybe remove 1 pad to see if there is anything at all under it ), if i hold the gpu in my hand upside down like it would be installed and shake it from side to side i can clearly hear the heatsink moveing around from side to side

take a picture of it,it shouldnt move freely like that, and yeah it should have thermal pads ontop of each mosfet and sandwiched between it and the heatsink, then it wouldnt rattle around,i dont think it was causing your original crashing but who knows unless you test with thermal pads in the right place

is that heatsink on your graphic card or motherboard? if on graphic card then it might have caused the crashes and lookslike someones been messing before you?

you can buy some thermal pads if you want or place those that have come off back in their propper position and tighten the heatsink backdown

yh they should be on top of the little black chips, they look like there on top of the resistors right now

you could buy an extra pack of thermal pads and put them on both resistors and black chips just to be 100% sure

i thought too that they should be on the little chips, i think what i will do latter is have a good look at the other gpu and see how they are sat, the other gpu has a slightly smaller heatsink there due to it not being the o/c version but im expecting to see the thermal pads on the chips,
the reason i have started asking about my graphice is because 2 days ago it all started happening again the freez ups and crashing just like the first time
last night i tryed something diffrent, i have installed the cards in pci e slots 2 and 4 now, it seams to be stable not freezing at all like this now but im really not sure if haveing them in the 8x slots will decrease my overall system performance
