Default It's worse than that...it's dead Jim (x58-ud3r or i7 950) No POST

So, I've been happily chugging along w/ my set-up for a while now (since the last time I posted here), but the other day I reformatted my system (2x 128gb ssd's in a raid 0). Everything seemed to go well, reload all my apps, and everything seemed fine for about 2 days. Then 2 days ago, I "woke" my PC and got a BSoD (couldn't read it fast enuff, but said something along the lines of "If this is the 1st time you are seeing this message". Then it was gone). Well, today, it's dead. No post. nada...

So I pull all cards (gtx460, Hauppauge), disco all drives, all USB & fan headers, fan control module...and still nada. the LED's next to the memory work, but there's no beeps at all. I've read where I should try removing the cmos battery for a while and see if that helps (I've not OC'ed at all...). Forgot to add, I've removed all memory and tried one stick (2 diff sticks), each in slot 1 and 3.

Aside from resetting the cmos (which I will do when I get home from work), how bad does this look? And, if resetting the cmos doesn't work, what should I try next (I have no other cpu's to try in this board, and no other boards to try my current cpu)?

    Thanks!

Thanks Wazza...I've just pulled the battery and will give the system some time to think about what its done...I do hope you're right...that would be the best case scenario

well...that didn't go as I had hoped...no nada after leaving CMOS batt overnight...guess now I have a 50-50 chance of guessing w/ part to replace...mobo or cpu.

Try this and see if it helps. You have to follow it very closely if you miss a step or dong follow it exactly it will not work. So if it does not work try it like 5 times before you say it did not work.

BIOS Recover Method Via Manually Invoking BACKUP BIOS Auto-Recovery
Using Power Supply - On/Off Switch

It is possible to make the BIOS Auto-Recovery kick in (Dual BIOS) and re-flash the MAIN BIOS with the contents of the BACKUP BIOS.

This is a simple and easy method for anyone to try before having to resort to other more difficult methods, or a RMA.

    1. Shut off the power supply using the switch on the back of the PSU, wait 10-15 seconds.
    2. Press and hold the case Power On swtich, then while still holding turn on the power supply from the switch on the rear.
    3. Still holding the case power on switch, the board will start, once it does release the case power on switch and shut off the power supply via the switch on the read of the unit. (Do the latter two parts as quickly as you can once the board starts)
    4. The board will shut down.
    5. Turn the power supply back on using the switch on the rear of the unit.
    6. Turn on the motherboard by pressing the case power on button.

Once the board starts this time you should see the Gigabyte splash screen, or POST page, then the Auto-Recovery from Dual BIOS will kick in. You will see a checksum error, and then recovery from BACKUP BIOS will begin. Once it is done reboot your machine and enter the BIOS and load optimized defaults then save/apply/reboot back to BIOS.

Now you are done, and will be using whatever BIOS was in your BACKUP BIOS, From there you can attempt whatever you were previously trying, or update your BIOS to the latest version.

is it hard to break your raid array and test with just one ssd? just to rule out possible fault? or test with spare hdd? try with only one memory stick installed also, could try testing with spare psu if you have one

Thanks guys...I"m at work now, but will spend my evening trying these a shot

@Acebmxer: I don't know if this matters, but I never really changed the bios other than to set up the raid0. no OC'ing, no nada. ATM, I don't have anything plugged into the board. no hdd, no usb headers, nothing but the power and the case power header. But I am going to give this method a shot. I'm just trying to get it to beep.

@wazza: I do have other hdd I can use, and another PS (tho it's a little light for this rig when set up...500w I think)

Thanks for the help fellas...I'll keep ya posted

progress...at least I can get to the bios now...

I am presently getting a "missing operating system" error...when I try to repair (using win7 disk) it can't resolve...and when I try re-installing, I get missing drivers. I'm wondering if there is a raid0 issue. still plugging along.

...At least I've made some progress...Thanks Acebmxer

Update: does not see one of my ssd's...that's not good if yer running a raid...still messing...and still no beeps at all from the BIOS

Yeah Bios wont tell at you is your missing a hdd from raid. Raid bios on startup should flash a warning. So Main bios was corrupted and the psu trick fixed it and got backup bios to flash main bios?
