Default Rough time over-clocking on my EX58-UD5

    hello all im new

i thought i was about time to start to over clock my i7 920 D0

The thing is i've had several attempt going slowly from standard up to 3.6 or 3.4Ghz
The problem is as soon as my first failure due to unstable OC occurs during stressing mostly resulting in a BSOD

i can not get windows to boot with (different)over-clocked settings again.
Even when i step down to previous stable speeds, all that happens is that it reboots a couple of times and then boots in to windows with standard settings (but the oc-ed settings remain in the bios)

i can cure this by loading the default settings my self and then slowly start to build up the base clock again. but once it gets unstable and i would normaly expect to need to up the voltage to get stable again. it just keeps on booting with safe (non-OCed) settings

I have saved 2 previous stable settings in my bios while i can reach similar results by slowly going up. but i cant just load them because the same thing will happen and it won't boot with those settings.

temps never exceeded 71 stressed and usually stressed i get to anywhere between 54 and 60 stressed because i start low with Vcore at 1.1 that brings me all the way up to around base clock 160 (x21) and then 165 or 170 is unstable and does not boot OC ed in to windows so i slowly raise my Vcore small bumps at a time but even with 1.25 it refuses to work each bump so i tried vcore 1.112 and raise the Qpi slowly but no effect.

why cant i boot in to windows with my new settings or even with the old stable settings after a BSOD?

its not like i'm doing any extreem OCs here... right?

how much qpi/vtt are you using, you want settings for 3.6ghz right? tell me what amount of cpu voltage is used in the bios when you set cpu voltage to normal

    i am using 1.175v QPI
and normal for CPU Vcore 1.28125

to be honest id hoped id be able to reach 3.8 or 4k
thats why i continued to OC when i was stable at 3.6 the first time

Because my temperatures seemed to be alright and a D0 stepping should be nice for Overclocking so i thought id be able to go up to 3.8 -4Ghz.

but what i don't understand is can can it be the when i keep the same voltages the following happens.

    base clock 150 = stable

    base clock 160 = stable

base clock 170 = unstable bsod on stresstest

base clock back to 160 = whon't boot (actualy it does boot but with standard settings telling its using tose settings bacause OC failure)

base clock back to 150 = same as above

but then when i do a full reset of the optimized defaults and then enter all the overclock settings again i can boot with 150 and work my way up again...

1.175v for qpi/vtt seems a little low,i can give you settings for 3.8 or 4ghz,first id try 3.8ghz and see how you get on

    try

    181x21 bclk
    memory multiplier 8x
    uncore frequency 17x
    cpu voltage on normal
    dvid set to +0.062500v
dram voltage according to ram 1.66v or 1.5v
    qpi/vtt 1.35v
    Gigabyte z77x UP4-TH F11c Modded Bios
    Intel i7 3770k 24/7@4.8ghz 1.38v Turbo llc +0.165v dvid multithreading enabled

humm i dont think have Dvid i think i have the F7 bios maybe its not in there?

i tried the settings except for the dvid

    but i did not boot

i did how ever use the settings from your signature/template and using normal on all voltages according to the bios

worked bclk up slowly from 133 to 181

and i am currently stress testing

    181x21 bclk
    memory multiplier 8x
    uncore frequency 17x
    cpu voltage on normal
    dram voltage 1.66v
    qpi/vtt 1.174v

so far so good. prime95 is running 60 minutes now i guess

i guess ill leave it running thought the night

f7 is an old bios if i remember right? i found f12 to be the best version for my ud5,dvid might work better with f12,and cpu voltage has to be on normal for dvid to unlock for adjustment

dont be scared to use more qpi/vtt,anywhere from 1.25v-1.38v is the norm

Ok so i finished stressing with one error. So i upped my qpi one notch. It boots fine. I shut down to do some other stuf. Few houres later turn on the pc and i ens up with my old problem. So i tryed all the qpi voltages up to 1.35. And non have worked so far. Off to work now. Grrrr

Guess ill have to try the newest bios. And see if that helps with booting from previous stable settings right after a failed oc. Because. Having to reset each time after failing, is realy giving me no chance to adapt voltages to get things running again.

Wow! i flashed to Bios F13 now it is so much nicer! also my previous issues with not being able to boot (with any other settings then standard after a failed OC) have been resolved!
    It gave me dvid and
now it acts like its supposed to do
i can finally start OCing for real

i will try those settings for 181 bclk you suggested.

    thanks for your help
