    Default Updating Drivers

    total. noob. question.

I have to admit, this sounds like a simple, computer 101 question, but not having ever performed this task, how am I to know? So, please bear with me, no laughing. You experienced builders talk about it all the time, but us noobs gotta learn somehow.

I would like to know step-by-step how to get mobo drivers updated. I have completed my first build. Specs below. And installed Windows 8 Pro 64 onto the SSD. All 4 HDDs are formatted and empty. (They will be pooled together as one 12TB storage pool. After that, I will create various storage spaces for my files.)

Before I create a refresh image, I'd like to get any Windows updates and driver updates completed.

I have downloaded the driver .exe files from the GIGABYTE Z77X-UD5H Windows 8 64-bit page onto a USB flash drive (12 files). If I execute one of these, it asks where I would like to extract to. Well, where? Is this a temporary folder on the C: drive that will be used later to actually perform the update?

    Then what?

    Grasshopper thanks master in advance.

Yeah, they are just self extracting archive files for the most part. Just double click them and they will make a new folder and extract.

Now, you didn't mention the BIOS, but when you update it make sure you have the new BIOS already extracted to your flash drive and either hit "End" while booting or F8 if in the BIOS to access Qflash. After the BIOS updates it will reboot, then while rebooting go back to the BIOS and load optimized defaults, then set up whatever else you need to like your ram, drives, etc. and hit F10 to save and exit, and it will reboot again and you can let it go to Windows.
    Hope that's clear, it's early.

hey, Thanks for the tips. Always learning.

I was able to get the BIOS updated. My board came as rev 1.1. I found out from Gigabyte the only difference from rev 1.0 was the BIOS. I had F13, updated to F14.

boon - I saw you have F15c. That beta? I usually don't go for beta. Wait till you guys flush out any bugs. F14 is the latest on the Gigabyte site.

Thanks again for the assistance. My first build is purring like a kitty.

I've got two 1.0 boards, the newer ones have different spacing between the ram slots and some different colored caps from pics I've seen.
F15c is working good, but can't tell any difference from F14.
Good luck with your rig, love the UD5H.

Gigabyte site not the best for updating drivers. Better to go to Tweaktown site
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ity-tools.html

or go to Intel's, or Realtek's site or whoever actually provides the driver. Tweaktown does a good job keeping them up to date.
