I just wanted everybody to know that I RMA'ed my sapphire hd7850 card and got my money back. I now have a Gigabyte (thought that my best bet is to try a graphic card of the same manufaturer as my motherboard) HD 7950 3gb and it works perfectly in PCI-e 3.0 mode. It was the Sapphire card all along. Its sad in some way because it was almost certainly a bios issue all along either on the MB or the GPU side and not a broken hardware problem. I could wait for another year or so and hope that maybe there will be some bios update that fixes this issue but as a consumer i shouldn't be foced to do it.
Another sad thing was that i got almost no help from either Gigabyte nor Sapphire tech support and had to reserch this problem for over a month on various tech forums.

Unhappy Re: Gigabyte G1 Sniper M3 - no video from card in pci-e 3.0 mode - complex problem

I have the same problem with my GIGABYTE GA-H77-DS3H (rev. 1.1) and GIGABYTE GTX 660 Ti GV-N66TOC-2GD. It only works on Gen1.
I've spent two days searching for solution, but no luck yet. It is very frustrating that two devices from one manufacturer are not compatible.
I dont want to change this video card, so I am going to change the MB. Any suggestions?)

FWIW, I'm having the exact same issue with a new build using Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 & Gigabyte 7950OC Windforce 3. I'm still troubleshooting but wanted to add my voice to the crowd and let ppl know that problems can still exist even if you use a Gigabyte 7950 with the Sniper M3.

Will let you know if I fix it.

UPDATE: It turned out it was the BIOS after all. The board shipped with F1 and after flashing with the F10 beta, things seem to be working.

Although late I would have said update bios then see wot happens. Sometimes we want instant answers to problems that don't even exist yet.
