Default Easy Tune 6 Caused BLOD

I selected the Auto Tune option in ET6 and while it was doing the stress test at somewhere around 4.63 I get the blod twice. the first time it gave the reason as System Service Exception and the second was NTFS File Mgr. I cancelled ET6 at this point but i'd like to know what this means. It's obviously OS related and not CPU but i'd like to be sure.

its probably due to a voltage/oc setting not right and crashing the pc,your always better to manually overclock through the bios,it will be more accurate, easytune and auto voltages tend to over compenstate for whats needed, your aim is to be 100% stable with the lowest voltages possible,

less volts=less heat,4.5ghz is usually the sweetspot regarding performance and heat, any higher usually needs a big bump in voltage and high temperatures

it got to 4.63 I think so what you're saying makes sense. I may leave the machine at it's defaults until I understand more clearly what the settings mean. right now the cpu is at 3.4. When I put this machine together I had and still have the nagging feeling that I didn't put enough thermal paste on but that doesn't seem to be the case.

you should be able to clock to 4.5ghz,things you need to be awareof is how much each llc setting adds to your cpu voltage, plus the offset voltage, try to keep cpu voltages below 1.35v and temps below 80c,ideally around 70-75c

you can follow this guide but its only a rough guide you will need to tweak the amount of llc level and dvid amount, dvid gets applied to the cpu voltage only at load so use cpu-z and stress the cpu to see you load volatge and adjust accordingly, always keep the first two didgits on 0,so 0.0 ect

thanks for the help and info. Since i'm looking for optimum performance and not looking into gaming what would be my best approach? would I want to look at possibly raising the ram timing or look at the cpu or a combo? i'm curious as to what my options are.

I came across an interesting situation, I decided to download a few benchmark programs from here and one is the Corsair Link 2 which told me my SSD was running at a temp of 128C! I'm thinking this is probably the temp on the surface of Mercury so how can this be. I google it and one guy says the same thing and suggests to the poster to download Crystal Disk Info so I do and it gives health ratings of the disks of Good, Fair and bad. My SSD has no temp but is good, my first HDD is good and a temp of 31c and my second HDD is bad at a temp of 31c. Is there any program out there that gives accurate reading. I just want to take a look at the status of the drives etc without these outlandish readings. I thought it was amusing in a way

I just downloaded HD sentinel and it's showing a temp of 82c for the ssd. i'm going to ask crucial if this is normal because the program says it could be high. it's also saying my 2nd HD has bad sectors so now I know

you can manually set the ram timings according to your ram if you want too,try hardware info

it could be just faulty software or a stuck sensor,i doubt its running at 80 odd c

that's a good monitor. I noticed in the cpu section there's 4 green bars since the cpu is a quad core and every so often one or more of them will shoot up and turn red then go back. Is that normal. The value under 'Clock' changes but the value under 'ThermMon' doesn't. that stays 'Ok'

BTW have you used the 'Update Drivers' function on the main screen of that program? It seems like they want you to buy the key for it. I don't trust those types of programs without someone recommending them

no i hardly ever pay for anything if i can help it,aslong as you use the latest drivers on gigabytes website then your board will be upto date

yes its fine for cpu usage to spike suddenly then settle back down, web browsing/opening pages ect does this

I was looking in the bios this morning and I noticed the auto tune function had the cpu at 4.35 which was the last successful pass before it forced the system to get the bsod so I wanted to adjust the settings but it seems all the options are locked. I loaded the optimized defaults and still can't get in which is fine but I'd like to know why. Is there any way I can get these answers.
