Default Solved - it was bent pins

LOL..... The end of the saga.

New 3770k arrived today in post today, I also phoned Intel warranty about the 'broken' 3570K - who accepted an RMA instantly afer explaining my troubles.

I removed the 'broken' 3570k, and whilst it was out decided to take some pictures of the socket....to prove the pins were straight......on first look they were fine from above, all lined up. But after lowering my head and looking across them ahhaaaaa what did I see other than 1 pin a fraction of a mm lower than the rest.

After a bit of fiddling with a needle and what looked like a straight pin, I popped the 3570K back in and BAM it boots in dual channel mode (using slots 1+2).

I got a no boot with all 4 slots filled, but that could just be as the DRAM needs a tad more voltage with all 4 slots full @ 1600mhz/CL7.

Anyways ive got x2 8GB Crucial Ballistix (guranteed to run in this board by crucial) modules arriving tommorrow so I will use them in slots 1+2 and be back to 16gb dual channel, then sell this 4x 4GB Corsair Vengence kit here on ebay.

So in the end it looked like it was my Asrock Mobo that died, and it was conicidence that this one bent pin on my new Gigabyte mobo caused a fault with the same symptoms.

All in all im only out of pocket for a new Mobo and its a better one than I started with anyway so im happy.
The 3770k is going back unopened for full refund.
I may make or lose a couple of on swapping my ram but hey thats life.

    Now sat here after 4 hrs of Prime Custom test, 4.4GHz DVID @ +0.005v, 1600hz Cas 7 1T @ 1.5v

    Happy bunny

thats good news,it is very rare for a cpu to be faulty, its usually the last component to test
