boondocks just use it day to day and see if its stable, far better than any stress tests,i only use them as a rough guide

@ehume you need to stress it max stress 5 runs in ibt @5ghz then ill believe you its stable

That is a great laugh. I couldn't even get it to boot a second time. I'll take the trophy run and . . . . run!

I would, though, like a recommendation for a reliable LinX with AVX, or an IBT with AVG.

I have no idea,i think its just a case of waiting for those softwares to catchup with the new instruction set of the chips?

haswell to me seems completely different in the way it overclocks to anything previous

I think I agree, although my experience is only with i7 860 & 875k. I actually OC'd my 875k the HW way -- with a BCLK of 133MHz and a variable multiplier up to 30x. It worked well for years, until I had a few crashes. I backed the multi down to 27x and have had no problems since.

The 860, though, still does its 182MHz x 22 = 4004MHz just fine. I still run LinX or OCCT/Linpack to test temps. OTOH, the GA-P55A-UD3P has had the 860's BCLK up to 232MHz and the CPU speed up to 4664MHz in trophy runs.

It is interesting that, although I can't really get it stable much over 4GHz, the 860 will do a trophy run up to 4664MHz. That's nearly two thirds of a GHz. My new 4770k, OTOH, will trophy run less than one third of a GHz over its stable speed.

But the 860 was stability-limited, not temp-limited. With the NH-D14 using stock fans I got around 55c TOA (temp over ambient), and I could get that temp down lower with more powerful fans. The 4770k seems stability-limited (albeit not trying very hard to fiddle with non-Vcore settings) above 4.7GHz, with a TOA around 70c. Because of the thermal-blanket IHS, it gets hot fast. So I imagine if I fiddled with non-Vcore settings I could get this chip stable at 4.8GHz, but it would be thermally-limited at that point.

Bottom line is that I think my 4770k is a better overclocker than my 860, which is a pretty good specimen of its species.

My 4.5 OC was running pretty good with these settings (all will vary from chip to chip)
    LLC -Extreme
    clock - 45
    uncore - 36
    cpu VRIN override - 1.8
    vcore - 1.26
    cpu vRing - 1.25

That was giving me 1.272 vcore while running Aida stress test.

Some things I have noticed with my board may cross over to there boards but here are some voltage read outs I have seen while overclocking. These settings were done with LLC set to Extreme

    Code:
                          Bios Dmm full load

    Vcore 1.2v-1.35v 0.01v-0.15v Higher
                          1.35v+ 0.02v+ Higher
                          1.330v 1.344v

    vRing 1.170v 1.189v

This is what I have tested/seen so far. But look at vcore the closer you get to 1.4v the more the board over volts. Cpuz 1.64.0 and higher seem to show correct vcore at full load compared to a dmm but only 1.64.0 for me show correct idle voltage.

Also noticed when setting fixed voltage for vring with all power saving options enabled in bios vring will also drop low along with uncore speed at idle.

Think I am going to settle on this as my 24/7 overclock. Gflops are a little low on this run most test were around 138-139ish.

GTL does not show tras when set to 32 in bios and cmd is t1 not t3 like GTL show.
