I keep getting bsod 116 which has made it impossible to run this ram, even if i set it to load optimized default. Hyper x ram no issues... Wtf?

1600 11 11 28 1.3xx and it has the bsod, 27 hours stable p95... With stock 3770k. F20c mod bios. It crashes at idle only.

    Otherwise "stable" 1866c9 1.45v cant get 2000 even if i tried 1.65vdimm 13-13-13-39 vtt 1.2 imc 1.195

RAM seems flaky, but it's the memory controller and BIOS that make it seem that way. The memory controller in the CPU is the first/main thing that requires certain things from memory, mostly the type of memory chips used. If the chips aren't compatible, it shouldn't work at all, but who knows? I've never seen any analysis about why memory works or not. We've all heard of matched DIMMs, but what exactly is matched?

These are my setting for the Samsung memory I use on my ASR Z87 board. I can run 8GB at 2133 on 1.35V with this:

    GA-Z77X UD3H and Samsung Green YK0 VLP Ram 30nm-z87-memory-1-jpg

In my experience with this memory, more voltage did not help. For example, I would set the speed to 2133 and use the timings above, and use 1.5V. When that worked fine (tested, used for a while) I will try lowering the voltage. Every time I do this, go from 1.5V to 1.35V, it still works fine.

If I then go to say 2200 at 1.5V, it fails to POST. When it fails to POST at a certain speed, with all timings on Auto, and at 1.5V, I decide that's it. I'm not that desperate to go faster to increase much above 1.5V, and I enjoy running at 1.35V. All this counts only for this memory.

Personally, I don't fight with memory, if it's finicky at stock speeds, it's no good. If it fails at one speed level above stock with timings on Auto at stock or a bit more voltage, IMO it's won't go higher. Yes you can tweak memory controller voltage, but if that is needed and works, you're just barely stable IMO.

If your board has a memory setting that allows "memory training", and you don't mind multiple restarts with automatic full shutdowns on cold boots, you can try that. What does that do?

you have to use the latest beta bios for gigabyte boards to stand anychance of clocking past 1800mhz with Samsung green, then 2133-2200mhz is possible

try latest final bios as I see your on a beta,no issues at all on my board

I was on the f20 modded per stasio but i just got the 116 error with hyper x! Might rma 7970, how is gigabyte rma process, using a xfx 7850 from mylan box to see if it bsods without the 7970... Doing hyper x stock i7 f18 bios see if it bsod 116s, must be the 7970s idle volt is too low, bad binning...

It only does it idle, not in a loaded environment.....

Bsod 116 is gfx driver error or bad ram, started recently happening. I dont overclock the 7970 as it maxes what I do...

how much ram 8gb or 16gb? if 16gb you'll probably need more cpu/vtt voltage from stock 1.05v maybe around 1.08v

for me with 8gb I need 1.55v dram voltage and stock cpu/vtt of 1.05v

This past month I have played around with this to try to get over 2000 mhz boot. I get stuck in a loop of 15 and 51 code. I tried the beta bios and modded bios to play with slew rates but no luck from 3 to 5. I have also tried up to 1.2 vtt 1.195 imc, dram voltage to 1.65, and bumping the tx and termination voltages a few bumps. I can't seem to do it either 2x4 or 4x4. I also can't get 2000 mhz 4x4 with cas9 stable at all either. Below are my settings from the expert ram screen for the stable I have achieved at 4x4gb

Turbo Expert, locked in all timings on both channels so no autos.
    Dram voltage: 1.450v.

My cpu is 42x, +.040v. Everything else is the same. stock vtt and imc.

I can do 1866 4x4gb as well but I have not tested the stability beyond a few IBT max cycles.

I can do 2000 2x4gb and be stable with same timings and voltages as the 1800 4x4.

I own 7 total sticks of this stuff and they are all identical in terms of quality/binning, so its consistent across all. I think I have 12/15 12/16 12/05 and 12/21 lots, but can't recall. They all perform best around 1.45 to 1.550 from my experiments.

Any ideas how to run 4x4gb at 2000 with this? or boot over 2000?

it might be hard with 16gb @2133mhz ive never tried on this board

did you use looser timings 11-11-11-24-1t or 2t for example? 1.55v dram seems to be the sweetspot and maybe 1.10v cpu/vtt voltage

    8gb you would run 2133mhz and 2200mhz no trouble,gets harder with 16gb

matched/unmatched batches/kits makes no difference either, i already tested that

Yes have tried looser timings and things, its a matter of getting stuck in a 15 51 loop.
