Default GA-K8NS USB ports not working

    Hello all,
I have a Gigabyte K8NS motherboard with AMD processor, running Windows XP where none of the USB ports work. I even added a PCI - USB card to provide two additional USB ports and those ports do not work either.

I have tried EVERYTHING that I know or have read, but no success. I removed power, checked cables, reformatted and reinstalled Win XP THREE different times, scanned for hardware changes, updated all Nvidia drivers, have F13 BOIS, removed drivers, reinstalled, checked memory, etc.

Unfortunately, the USB ports still do not work. No device is recognized and there are no errors in Device Manager except that one items shows "unknown device" under USB controllers....and I don't even have a USB device connected! The computer keeps telling me that a USB device has malfunctioned or is not recognized. Wherever I plug a USB device into, it's not found....including hard drives.

I sent in a support request to Gigabyte, but they no longer support this motherboard.

    Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello again all,
Just an update: I just removed Win XP from the machine and I purchased and installed Windows 7 Pro and all USB ports still do not work.

Do you folks think it could be the motherboard?

    Thanks for your help.

Highly unlikely seeings you stated previously "I even added a PCI - USB card to provide two additional USB ports and those ports do not work either."

Is this a new build or maybe one that's new to you? Have you installed the chipset drivers and or USB drivers? I think the newer AMD chipset drivers found on AMD.com include the USB drivers. Not sure if Win 7 even has in the box nForce3 drivers or not anymore
#1 - Please, when seeking help, enter the make and model of ALL parts that your system is comprised of in your Signature, or at least the model #'s in your System Specs, then "Save' it.
