    Guys good news.

    After many hours of tweaking, I've managed to get stable @ 525 FSB (5-5-5-20) passing loops of Memtest, about 5 hours of it.

    I'll try to post later my M.I.T. setting so you let me know if they're off-limits (voltages more precisely)!

    Hello guys good and new news :)

    I've managed to boot in Windows @ 530 FSB but had to bump a bit the voltages. What do you thing of them? Too much to 24/7 with phase-change cooling?

    MCH will be, for now, air cooled.

    About temps I just can give the one I'm getting in bios right now still with air cooling:

    System: 29º
    CPU: 51º

    What is the max voltages I can for 24/7?

    Glad to see that you're making progress.

    What is the max voltages I can for 24/7?
    The "recommended" 24/7 or everyday limits are:
    • CPU Vcore less than 1.45V
    • CPU Termination (aka VTT): At least 0.05 lower than CPU Vcore.
    • CPU PLL less than 1.60V
    • MCH Core less than ~ 1.40V

    Your 3.18GHz (530x6) settings currently represent a 6% overclock over stock settings.
    Your bios voltages and temperatures will increase as you increase the cpu multiplier.

    The main consideration is how long do you want your cpu to last?
    Running your system with extreme voltages will put much more wear and tear on your system's components.

    Perform the following web searches:
    • electromigration overclocking
    • maximum q9650 q9550 safe overclock
    and you will find varying recommendations.

    In post #4 I reported:
    The GFlops results scaled closely with the cpu speed where:
    • stock = 39+ GFlops
    • everyday = 49+ GFlops
    • high O/C = 53+ GFlops

    where stock = 3.000GHz, everyday = 3.814GHz (+27%) and high O/C = 4.140GHz (+38%).
    The difference between my everyday O/C and high O/C is 8.5% but the real world performance difference is probably at best, less than 3% - 4%.

    From the screen-shot in post #4, HWiNFO64 reports the following idle temperatures:
    • Motherboard: 27oC
    • CPU: 19oC

    While running IBT each of the maximum cpu core temperatures were 59oC to 64oC.

    When you are tweaking MCH Reference and/or CPU Reference settings you need to use the following procedure:

    1. set VTT to 1.20V
    2. adjust MCH or CPU reference(s) to the desired values
    3. set VTT back to the desired (i.e. previous) value

    and report each setting using the following format:

    MCH Reference_____0.760V_____: [0.863] using 0.800 @ 1.2v VTT

    In the above example, with VTT = 1.20, you would have set MCH Reference to 0.800 and when you set VTT back to the desired setting, the bios would then show MCH Reference as 0.863.

    You can increase or decrease your VTT setting without manually changing either of these reference settings, but in this case the bios will display a different value in each of the reference value's brackets after you have changed the VTT setting.

    The only changes if I use 4.0 and not 4.3 is CPU Vcore down to 1.36250 and these setups both seem to be stable for me.

    Jim,

    I've plugged my phase-change cooling system, used your 'recommended' voltages (Vcore 1,45 / VTT 1,4 / PLL 1,59 / MCH Core 1.4), and managed to get to 515 FSB stable @ Win7 boot and Memtest loop.

    I'm posting some pictures of the bios including temperatures and the options selected:



    -30º ^^







    With VTT @ 1.2v, I selected CPU Ref @ 0.785v and MCH Ref @ 0.8v as suggested in some forums.













    Now my question is, since the CPU is -30º and system at 30º is it safe to go up the voltages? And what advices do you give me to try to achieve 533~556 FSB to 24/7 usage.

    Passing Memtest86+ doesn't mean that your system is stable.
    Your system might not be able to boot into windows or it might quickly fail Prime95, LinX or IBT stress tests.
    Why do you want to run with extreme settings?
    With your P45/DDR2 system, your memory bandwidth is pretty much maxed out when you are running at 4.00 - 4.25GHz.

    Your phase change cpu cooling obviously helps with cpu temperatures but I don't know if you can safely run with higher than normal recommended voltages and avoid degrading your hardware due to electromigration damage.

    Based on the above ppt slides on the Gigabyte UK site, I doubt that you will be able to run your Q9650 with an FSB higher than your current setting.
    Note that their QX9650 was "only" at 4.05GHz with 7.5 x 540MHz settings.

    Once you get above ~ 3.80GHz, required voltage settings rise quickly.
