Ooh you've just reminded me I have 2 Zalman fan controllers (I think that's what they're called). The case fans are just the stock ones that came with the case, of which there are 3. The top and rear fans are attached to the included fan controller and I have them set to low.

I will try running the test overnight if it's not too loud an hopefully it will pass and we can move up to 3.6 (again).

If your overnight test is successful, run a 30 minute stress test tomorrow with:
    • All fans set to their highest speeds.
    • Keep the front panel open to allow maximum intake airflow.
    • Compare the differences in the logs for all four core temperatures and the single cpu temperature.

This will give you an idea of how much hotter your system is running with the quieter setup.

Check out the SPCR P182 review at Antec P182 Advanced Super Midtower Case: P180 v.2 | silentpcreview.com for some interesting cooling and noise information.

So when I woke up my computer was no longer running :(

    Bluescreenview gave me this report:

I think the test ran for just under 4 hours.

Here is a link to the HWiNFO log file:

    Zippyshare.com - log5.CSV

Interestingly it is somewhat smaller than the previous test... :/

Here is a screenshot just after it started for reference:

Unhappy Re: Socket 771 Mod Xeon X5460 GA-P35-DS3L Overclock

So I lowered the vcore to1.26250V; 8.5 multi, 401 FSB and tried again

Here is a screenshot from before the test:

    Socket 771 Mod Xeon X5460 GA-P35-DS3L Overclock-3-4hcimemtest2-jpg

and here is the HWiNFO log:

    Zippyshare.com - log6.CSV

I'm not quite sure what's causing these :/

Thought I would also include a link to the replies I had to some questions about my RAM on the crucial forum:

Ballistix DDR2-800 2x2GB kit Part number: BLS2CP2G... - Crucial Community

Maybe some new RAM might be a good idea?

Ooh also, I forgot to ask if I should connect my case fans to the motherboard or if they will run fine connected straight to the power supply?

    Good morning!

So I was slightly disheartened after the BSODs yesterday and was wondering if it takes so long to get stable at 3.4GHz, is it worth it just to then try and move to 3.6 then 3.8 and so on?

I also wondered if logging might have anything to do with the BSODs?

I (possibly foolishly) decided at 12:30-1am to increase vcore to 3.5V and set multi to 9.5, FSB 401 and run with just CPU-Z, RealTemp and 4xHCi MemTest windows...

I just woke up (8:30am) to find the system still running :)

    Here is a screenshot:

    Socket 771 Mod Xeon X5460 GA-P35-DS3L Overclock-3-8ghz-jpg

They're still running in the background so I'm hoping they will keep going til 1pm!

Talking Re: Socket 771 Mod Xeon X5460 GA-P35-DS3L Overclock

Thought I would add that this was with the case front door open and the case fans set to low (any higher and I probably wouldn't have slept!)

    Success at 3.8Ghz?

    Socket 771 Mod Xeon X5460 GA-P35-DS3L Overclock-3-8-success-jpg

What's the next step? Is 12 hours adequate for me to now increasing the overclock? If so do I just up the FSB and vcore or is there anything else I need to do?
