Maybe I'll load a newer version of MemTest86+ and see if it makes a difference after the (hopefully) second pass

    Got the second pass:

    Socket 771 Mod Xeon X5460 GA-P35-DS3L Overclock-image-jpg

System cold booted a few times though...

I'm gonna go ahead and adjust the timings like you suggested and see what happens. Think I'll need to increase the core to stop the cold boots?

Memtest86+ v5.01 is the latest version from Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

At the top of their web page they say:

Memtest86+ was, is and will always be a free, open-source software.
The original Memtest86 is now handled by PassMark® Software Pty Ltd.

Passmark offers two updated versions of their Memtest86 v5.1.0 program at PassMark MemTest86 - Memory Diagnostic Tool
where the standard version is free and they offer a paid version that normally sells for $39 (USD).

The original Memtest86 versions had serious problems at some time in the past, and the program languished for several years.

I haven't tried PassMark's updated versionbut I'm going to download and try their standard (free) version and give it a test ride.

Changed the timings, Windows just booted fine. Now comes the fun (we wish) part.

    Updated BIOS settings:

When exactly did the two cold boots occur?

Did you use the ESCAPE key to exit Memtest86+ and immediately warm boot into windows?

Did you have EIST and C1E enabled during the tests?

You can lower the cpu speed to 3.80GHz or increase vcore and retest.

I have a recent o/s backup image on my external drive so I would go directly into windows and run LinX and HCI Memtest.

A reasonable compromise would be to skip the 2-pass test and just do one 15-pass test using test #7.

It's your call which way you go.

DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.3V] might be part of the problem.

Your memory is rated up to 2.30 volts and I'm able to run my 8GB of HyperX T1 memory at 2.20 volts using the +0.4V dram voltage setting.

It's possible that your memory might require up to 2.30V using the +0.5V setting.

    Ignore Gigabyte's memory voltage warning.

    Darn I wasn't noting the details :(

I'm not sure, the cold boots might have been before or after the Memtest86+ - might well have been both!

After I finished the test I changed the BIOS to turn off legacy USB detect (which was for running Memtest86+) and re-ordered my Boot priorities.

I had EIST and C1E both running during all the passed tests

I was also hasty in reporting the new BIOS settings. I just took photos of the screens so here is the updated and 100% accurate version of my current BIOS settings:

Yes, keep EIST and C1E enabled.

It's possible that (G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.2V] might be needed.

I don't know if increasing FSB OverVoltage Control will help.

Using the 4-4-4-12 timings is putting more demands on your system compared with 5-5-5-18 timings at 1.80 volts.

We really need to stop cross-posting at the same time.

Note: I was just about to post this reply but I took a quick look-see and lo and behold you slipped in another post.

    DETAILS ARE ALWAYS IMPORTANT!!!

You need to type this statement 500 times and you're not allowed to use copy and paste.

100% accurate? Are you willing to bet your life on it?

Default Re: Socket 771 Mod Xeon X5460 GA-P35-DS3L Overclock

I apologise for the lack and inaccuracy of some of the recent details. I think I get caught up in things sometimes!

I even keep a little booklet with the changes I make but I guess the timings of the cold boots was one of the recordings that you would make that I hadn't realised previously...

I will be extra stringent in looking for details and taking note of them from now! (500 lines would be torture!)

I'm going for a run but will increase the DDR2 OverVoltage Control to +0.5V when I get back.

Should I wait before increasing (G)MCH OverVoltage Control to +0.2V?

    Thanks!

You can also prove some of your voltage settings using EasyTune5 or EasyTune5Pro.

Never have any version of ET5 running while you are running stress tests.

I have ET5 Pro set so that it never starts with windows, it only runs if I manually start it.

    P35-DS3L + E6300 (R0), 3.50GHz [8 x 437MHz] + 8GB Hyperx T1 memory @ 874MHz 4-4-4-10 timings

note the common program bug where the reported cpu speed is 10.5 x 437MHz where 10.5X is the maximum cpu multiplier for my cpu.
