    patient must you be

    Apology accepted, but....next time --> <-- 50 lashes with a wet noodle

I'm not into publicly humiliating anyone, but I can't stress strongly enough how important details can be.

If your enthusiasm and/or impatience gets the better of you, you'll end up wasting time and effort.

If you change too many variables at one time you won't know which one(s) hurt or helped.

Ok. Back from my run, EasyTune 5 downloaded.

About to restart, change DDR2 OverVoltage Control to +0.5V and hopefully boot into Windows.

All other settings will remain unchanged! :)

Well it seems to still be playing nice :)

I changed DDR2 OverVoltage Control to +0.5V and noted in the PC Health status menu that DDR18V = 2.096V (I don't know if this is important but I thought I would write it down anyways)

Here is a screenshot including EasyTune 5, CPU-Z, RealTemp and MemSet:

2.3 volts for your memory might be too high, even though it is within spec.

With my 2 x 2GB of Mushkin Blackline 1066MHz memory (now retired) the maximum rated voltage was 2.1 volts but I found that the system "felt better" with 2.00 volts.

So you think that your system boots faster with the new memory, I call that the placebo effect.

I use a free program called Boot Racer that posts a screen every time you boot your system and it shows how many seconds from the start of windows to the desktop.

I completed a Memtest86+ 2-pass test with my 8GB of memory, and the elapsed time for the test was 2 hours, 15 minutes which is somewhat less than half the time for your 2-pass test with 4GB to complete.

Homework: What are the 3 primary reasons why my elapsed time wasn't twice as long as your elapsed time.
There are 4 primary reasons, but I'm not including my karma as an answer.

That sounds like a tough assignment!

You must excuse me if I'm mistaken but I thought my 2 pass test took 1 hour and 23 minutes... :/

Other than that do I need to go back to the BIOS and change DDR2 OverVoltage Control to +0.4V?

    Your screen-shot looks good.

With EIST and C1E enabled, the cpu speed should be lower, possibly as low as 6 x 411 = 2.466GHz when there is a low load on your system.

The RealTemp elapsed time shows 18 seconds, but that is from the time you started RealTemp or reset RealTemp's statistics.

In post #200 I replaced the original ET5 screen-shot from the web with an older screen-shot from my P35-DS3L system.

Right now I'm one hour into a four hour HCI Memtest run with my cpu vcore = 1.36250 and so far, so good.

I think that my system will fail the LinX using all available memory, about 5500MB.

It's not helping things with my ambient temperature = 27o(C).

Arrrg, you just snuck in another post.

Leave the dram voltage at 2.30 volts for now.

Yes your 2-pass test took 1:23 so with twice as much memory, shouldn't my test have taken 2:46 to complete.

I just did some quick math where my 2:15 test took 135 minutes to complete and your 83 minute 4GB test would have taken 166 minutes to complete with 8GB. According to my math, 166 divided by 135 = 1.23 (rounded) so my system was about 23% faster.

    Need I repeat my question?

Oh man my brain is NOT working today

I will change DDR2 OverVoltage Control back to +0.5V and then I will try and research the answer to my assignment.

Not sure if this is the correct answer but here's my first attempt:

"The time necessary to complete the testing process can vary greatly, depending on the capacity and speed of the RAM that has been loaded, the FSB (Front Side Bus) speed of the CPU or other factors specific to the test board"

    Reference: RAM Testing - FreekiWiki

I got confused with the question as you said that your test completed in "somewhat less than half the time" than my test - I hope I don't sound pedantic here, I just mean to explain why I was unsure.

    ....GRUMBLE, GRUMBLE, GRUMBLE.....

Where did it freeze? While booting? At the desktop? While running a test? !!!DETAILS !!!

There might be some useful information in the HWiNFO log file if you start it shortly after booting, including how long your system had been running and if there were any excessive cpu loads or temperatures that were too high.

It might also help to save a screen-shot shortly after booting that displays voltages and other information before you start testing. This way we might see something that doesn't look right.

This reminds of question I sometimes post in the forum; would you ever do this?

Hey doc, I've got a headache! What's causing it?

    Homework Assignment

We have similar memory, similar motherboards and cpu speeds that that are within 100MHz.
Hint: It has something to do with the different FSB's; 411MHz vs 445MHz even though the overall cpu speeds differ by only 2.6%.
    • Do you think that your looser 5-5-5-18 timings might have hurt your performance compared with my somewhat tighter 5-4-4-12 timings?
    • Memory speed 822MHz vs 890MHz.
    • Using Performance Enhance = Standard vs Extreme?

Hey, maybe my karma does have something to do with my faster performance.
