    Welcome to the forum duchoapnpd.

Your minimum core temperatures look good, and the current/max temperatures might be ok if you are running a LinX or IBT stress test.

We don't know what your current ambient (room) temperature is and we don't know anything else about your hardware.

We need detailed information about ALL OF THE HARDWARE in your system.

We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs
portion of your forum profile at the bottom of the profile page or in your forum signature.
Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.
When you are done editing or creating your hardware list, save the settings.

Look at my posts and you will see some posts that include screen-shots that provide a lot of information about my system. Right now my test system uses a Q9550 cpu, EP45-UD3P motherboard, 8GB of Mushkin XP2-8500 ram, Seasonic X650 power supply and a Scythe Mugen 2 rev. B cpu cooler.

LinX and IBT are excellent preliminary stress tests and the GFlops scores are good for seeing if your current setup is working at the correct speed. The GFlops scale almost perfectly with cpu speed. Neither of these programs are reliable for stress testing. I've had many Prime95 errors that occurred as much as 6 - 8 hours into the test, where LinX or IBT ran error free for up 20 - 25 minutes. In my opinion, running LinX or IBT for longer than ~ 20 minutes is cpu abuse.

I will continue to run a 5 loop LinX preliminary stress test using all available memory (~5400MB) each time I start testing a new overclocking configuration.

The following 1024MB, 2048MB and 3072MB stress tests were run for SmOgER's benefit.

After playing in the 4.0GHz arena, the Q9550 stock performance looks rather drab.

Running LinX with an ambient temperature = 20o(C) and with stock settings, the maximum core temperatures during the 2048MB LinX tests were 50o - 53o(C) and the idle, no load core temperatures were 32o - 33o(C).

I am confused by this statement.
    Who told you this?
Do you have C1E and EIST enabled in your bios, in the Advanced BIOS Features section?
Two identical cpu's will seldom use the exact same settings while overclocking, if they did, we could publish an overclocking guide with settings for every cpu model at every cpu speed.

With my 3.41GHz setup, I let the bios choose the cpu voltage by using the AUTO setting so that I could see what it would set.
The EasyTune6 window in post #327 shows that the normal voltage is 1.23750 and the AUTO setting in the bios set it to 1.33750.
This 0.10000 increase over the stock setting seemed to be too high, because the AUTO setting with a 3.11GHz overclock was still at 1.23750.
I was not concerned because I had EIST and CiE enabled which would adjust the voltage up or down as needed.

You can check the applied cpu voltages in post #328 during my 8 hour Prime95 stress test where the ambient temperature was 31o(C) for the first six hours of the test.

FWIW, I went back to manual bios settings when I went up to 3.68GHz because the AUTO settings reported by EasyTune6 got way out of line.
EasyTune6 will not work with your P35-DS4 motherboard and EasyTune5 for the P35 motherboards provides very little useful information.

I requested IBT in curiosity for the CPU temperatures, but you haven't showed them. :)

prime95@blend stresses both memory and CPU, while prime@8k stresses only the CPU and loads it a bit more.

Now as for the voltages, Xeons tend to be a bit more efficient.

Now you say it's too much a hassle for you to order a better chip and even get some extra bucks delta by selling your current one, I say look at this:

    Attachment 7040(not mine)

That vcore is still somewhat in the operational range for several years if you can keep the chip from throttling under IBT and the performance of such beast is at least equal to i7-2600K,
which is very competitive even today and could handle any modern VGA without any noticeable bottlenecking.

I haven't been impressed with the limited number of higher end Xeon overclocks that I've found on youtube and I really don't want to read through long forum threads that might or might not include details about their hardware setup and may or may not provide bios templates.

Have you thought about using LN2 cooling for insanely high, short term overclocks?

Ahhh. that was a 5Ghz X5470 I was referring to. It isn't "insanely high" overclock since the FSB isn't above 500 and the vcore is only slightly above the 1.5V so it shouldn't be that hard to keep it from throttling on air.

    Harpertown @ 4.3Ghz = i5 2500K
    Harpertown @ 5Ghz = i7 2600K

Can't find that pic now, but here are a couple of other ones showing how efficient these chips are:

Anyway, I've got a E5462 to play with till my X5460s (both steppings) arrive. This chip isn't an OC champion since it only has a multi of 7. It doesn't need much vcore but with FSB in 450-500 (booted it as high as 500x7=3.5Ghz) range it demands too much juice from mobo - to get it stable under prime95 it demands more VTT, PLL and NB than I'am comfortable giving it. Especially during these warm (hot) days...

SO, for the time being I decided to play it cool with this (not gonna happen with X5460s hehe) and settle at undervolt&overclock @ 3Ghz to discover how far I can go below it's VID.

    That's how it went:

The results positively surprised me I gotta say, especially considering that it's the older C0 stepping.

I'm curious to see what your DDR3 performance is with your Asus P5QC motherboard.
As I recall, the numbers weren't very much higher with P45 DDR3 setups, probably due to the memory controllers at the time.
If you want to post MaxxMEM2 memory benchmarks, keep in mind that the scores will sometimes vary by several hundred points each time you run a test.
P45 DDR2 memory scores seldom got higher than the mid to high 9,000 to low 10,000 range.

To test my memory's performance, I'm going to use 7-Zip to zip and unzip a 10GB package of various files on my ssd to significantly avoid hard drive limitations.
Naturally my ssd performance levels are limited to sata2 bandwidth.

I have two 128GB Samsung 830 ssd's and one 256GB Samsung 840 Pro ssd for my systems.
It will be interesting to see how using Samsung's Rapid Mode with the 840 Pro will compare in the zip/unzip tests.
