Due to overwhelming demand from the peanut gallery, I am posting a screenshot showing the results and temperatures from an IBT 10 loop standard test using 1024MB of memory. Please keep applause down to a dull roar.

If you want to post MaxxMEM2 memory benchmarks, keep in mind that the scores will sometimes vary by several hundred points each time you run a test.
P45 DDR2 memory scores seldom got higher than the mid to high 9,000 to low 10,000 range.

To test my memory's performance, I'm going to use 7-Zip to zip and unzip a 10GB package of various files on my ssd to significantly avoid hard drive limitations.
Naturally my ssd performance levels are limited to sata2 bandwidth.

I have two 128GB Samsung 830 ssd's and one 256GB Samsung 840 Pro ssd for my systems.
It will be interesting to see how using Samsung's Rapid Mode with the 840 Pro will compare in the zip/unzip tests.
Actually it all depends more on the particular frequency and corresponding latency settings than on memory type (or controller). DDR3 in general is just more efficient and more affordable memory.
    with DDR2 800 CL4 ---> DDR2 1066 CL5 jump you will see much bigger performance improvement than going DDR2 1066 CL5 ---> DDR3 1600 CL9.

Now DDR3 1333 CL9 can be actually even a little slower than DDR2 1066 CL5 due to big difference in latency settings and not so big frequency gap. That's why DDR2 1066-1200 can be still quite competitive memory, albeit DDR2 800 falls short in most scenarios.

I'am currently tweaking my memory to see how far I can go with CL7 (originally rated for 1600 CL9, now running 1360 CL7).

EDIT: Tightened the timings a bit more and a quick benchie with AIDA64 at 1370Mhz 7-7-7-20 TRd8 showed 11551MB/s memory read. Not bad at all. Will get back with the actual screenshots.

    2 x 4GB DDR3 @ 1370Mhz 7-7-7-20 trd8
(CORSAIR Vengeance high profile 1600 CL9)

Latency is not ideal, but it fluctuates from one test to another,
so let's just assume the small chunk of it is being eaten by background activities. :P

EDIT: Purely out of curiosity looked at the ebay prices for DDR2. By the looks of it, DDR2-1066 CL5 8GB kit (not very efficient voltage wise, but performance should be pretty similiar to DDR3 1333 CL7) cost as much as $150.

The following disk benchmarks were done with:
    • EP45-UD3P motherboard
    • Q9550 @ 2.83GHz (no overclock)
    • 8GB (4 x 2GB) Mushkin XP2-8500 Blackline ram @ 1066MHz
    • Highpoint 1022A add-in usb 3.0 card

Keep in mind that the EP45-UD3P has pci-e 2.0 bandwidth and P35 motherboards have pci-e 1.x bandwidth.

newer owned P35 mobo so can't confirm that, but how can you find this relevant when you are testing your SATA3 drive?

Even if you are using some kind of SATA PCI-E controller. SATA3 bandwidth is 6Gb/s (SATA2: 3Gb/s), PCI-E 1.0 has 2.5GT/s (around 150Gb/s) and your drive is using 1Gb/s.

EDIT: I'am a bit confused as to why you are getting such low speeds with SSD. You sure it's operating at SuperSpeed (SS) USB3? Those out of place blue bubbles on the right in the last screen might represent the sequential speeds, but when it comes to 128K and others, either this app isn't giving all the information, or they are lower than they should be. click here

EDIT2: AS SSD numbers definitely too low.

All three of the drives I benchmarked used the usb 3.0 interface, not the sata interface.
Most if not all of the pci-e usb 3.0 add-in cards are designed to be used with a pci-e 2.0 x1 slot but they should be compatible with pci-e 1.x systems.

These benchmarks for my o/s boot drive are from my now retired P35-DS3L system:

Now here is MY toy with Rapid mode enabled :P

Update on CPU front: Received X5460 SLANP. Currently at 4Ghz cause I can't seem to keep the temps in check with anything higher (already in 80s), vcore around 1.36v. For some reason this thing heats up more than Q6600.. I'am hoping the SLBBA one will be more efficient and therefore will run cooler. Current cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO, but it looks like on 2014 models they replaced fan with silent version operating at 1300rpm max, so might need to mess with it a bit...

It would be more meaningful if you posted several different ssd benchmarks with rapid mode enabled.
I'm pretty sure that the simplistic Samsung Magician benchmark would have much lower scores.

From my post in another thread:

The results are pretty similiar with any given software. :)
