Would it be a bad idea to install Windows 7 + SP1 together? I am just formatting my SSD at the moment... but would make a new USB install tool without SP1 if you say so!

Also I can't find the Chipset INF 9.4.0.1017 driver :/ Might you be able to link that one to me also? (Sorry if I sound demanding here!)

    Cheers Jim!

A google search using: Chipset INF 9.4.0.1017 download leads to https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...?DwnldID=22586 but it says:

This download is valid for the product(s) listed below.

    Intel® NUC Board D33217CK
    Intel® NUC Board D33217GKE
    Intel® NUC Board DCP847SKE
    Intel® NUC Kit DC3217BY
    Intel® NUC Kit DC3217IYE
    Intel® NUC Kit DCCP847DYE
I wonder if this explains why I can't boot with AHCI mode enabled, even though IDE and RAID modes work.

Please don't ask me why I thought that 9.4.0.1017 would be okie-dokie for my system.

    Haha no problemo!

Sorry to ask so many questions, but do you think I should partition my SSD before I install Windows? If so would you please recommend what size partition to make?

Also, can I ask again if it would be ok to install Windows 7 +SP1 as one ISO file or should I make a new bootable USB without the SP1 update?

    Thanks Jim :)

oops, forgot to answer your o/s install question.
I've never tried combining the initial o/s install with an additional service pack so I don't know what steps are needed for the service pack update to work.

Ok well I'll chance it and let you know if it fails and I have to start from scratch! Is now the right time to make a partition?

I didn't want a separate hidden win7 recovery partition so I formatted my ssd with 4K alignment to use all available space and then installed win7.
My single partition now has a hidden recovery folder which simplifies backups.

After my o/s installation was complete, I then shrank the partition to 80% of its "real" capacity to leave a larger unallocated space (20%) for ssd over-provisioning.

So many questions and so little time for other things.

ARRRGGG, I forgot to say for you to make sure that there are no other ssd's or hard drives connected when you install win7.

Win7 installs just love to upgemuck partition MBR's when additional ssd's or hard drives are installed.

Gotcha! It's the only drive connected so now I'm googling how to format with 4k alignment now...

You probably installed the OS under IDE, so it doesn't expect to see a boot drive in AHCI mode and gives you BSOD.

Btw, you should mention that you are running your SSD in rapid mode (Ram caching), otherwise those numbers look unrealistic :P

Windows finally installed along with all the drivers and easytune 6 :)

Now having some difficulty installing more than 1 module of RAM - I can't get it to POST with 2 modules in the yellow slots or all 4 slots filled...

Gonna' try switching the pairs around to see if that helps... Any suggestions?
